  • The Senior Technician - Systems is responsible for the advanced operation and maintenance of a complex multivendor nationwide network, ensuring network integrity and quality.  The Senior Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting end to end issues on an ever changing network.  This troubleshooting consists of a combination of working directly on devices and coordinating with other internal and external teams.  Equipment that is worked on includes, but not limited to, Cisco, Juniper, Starent, Load balancers (F5 and Cisco), and Firewalls (Nokia and Juniper).
  • Troubleshoots, upgrades, and administers multiple vendor systems.
  • Operates, administers, and performs advanced maintenance of the core data network elements.
  • Maintains systems, elements, and platform applications.
  • Composes clear and concise reports for system documentation.

Other responsibilities of the Senior Technician include:

  • Initiate team communication via IM chat keeping the team operating efficiently, balancing work load of the technicians,  and serving as technical resource for problem resolution as required.
  • Be technical escalation point for the team and act as lead escalation point prior to management escalation during shift.
  • Interacting with other teams to make sure the team is aware of upcoming changes to the network and is ready to support them at launch.
  • Train and mentor teammates on procedures, tools, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Recognizing, recommending, and implementing business process improvements necessary to increase the efficiency of the DSO team.
  • Advanced technical proficiency, being perceived as the “go to” person/ SME of the group and can work difficult troubleshooting assignments.
  • Conducts presentations to management when needed regarding work related topics.
  • Maintain presence on shift, always in the know of issues occurring, and can be relied upon by management for assistance.
  • Able to work difficult, long term or larger outages with minimal supervision and keeping management in the loop.
  • Position is HIGHLY visible within the company.

  • Minimum Associates degree or relevant military experience.  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Communications, or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years experience/In-depth knowledge, 5 years preferred, in more than one of the following fields:
    • Wireless/data service, data communications, digital communications, operating systems and applications, telecommunications, computer support and project management.
    • Experience working with Cisco IOS, Cisco IOS-XR, and JunOS (CCNA and/or JNCIA a plus).
    • Demonstrated knowledge of power and data networking protocols including TCP/IP, OSI, ATM, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, other LAN/WAN protocols is required.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of transmission facilities (OC48, T3, T1, and DS-0) is required.
  • Demonstrated the ability to efficiently multitask and prioritize in a nonstop environment.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to take control of bridges with executive level presence and lead an outage bridge to resolution.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook is required. 
  • Must be able to tolerate highly stressful situations that come from balancing multiple deadlines, escalations, follow-ups from peers, and troubleshooting major issues over conference bridges.
  • Advanced technical training completed.
  • Ability to self-motivate and demonstrate initiative.
  • No outstanding attendance or business conducts issues.
  • Ability to work with minimal to no supervision
  • Overall performance should consistently exceed expectations.
