Pre-65 Medical Coverage to Medicare

Medicare is a government-funded program that provides you with basic medical coverage. When Medicare eligible, Medicare becomes your primary payer and you must enroll in a Verizon medical plan that coordinates with your Medicare coverage.

For retirees turning age 65, the Verizon Benefits Center will send Medicare enrollment materials to your home address on file 60 days in advance of your Medicare eligibility date, which is the first of the month in which you turn age 65. In certain circumstances, such as disability, you may be eligible for Medicare before age 65.

The Medicare enrollment materials provide the health plan options that are available to you and your dependents. It's important to review these materials in a timely manner to ensure you and your family are receiving the right coverage when you reach age 65 or become Medicare eligible as the result of a disability.
