Creating a Verizon 9100 wireless network in Windows 7


Creating a wireless home network in Windows 7 requires 6 steps:

  1. Verify your router installation and Internet connection


  2. Installation preparations


  3. Install the ZyXEL USB wireless adapter(if a wireless adapter isn't already installed)


  4. Configure your network


  5. Add other computers to your wireless network


  6. Test your network

Step 1: Verifying your router installation

  1. Open an Internet browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox.


  2. Enter http://www.verizon.com into the Address field. The Verizon home page should display.

Before you begin setting up your wireless network, be sure that you have completed each item on the checklist below.

  • Most newer computers have wireless network adapters installed when you purchase them. You can use Device Manager if you're unsure whether you have a wireless adapter installed. If you have a wireless adapter installed, you can skip to Step 4.



Step 3: Installing the ZyXEL wireless adapter

A ZyXEL wireless USB adapter is needed to send and receive the radio waves that are used to communicate over your wireless network.
  • Note: The D-Link and Westell wireless adapters that were previously sold by Verizon are not compatible with Windows 7, or with WPA2 or WPA network encryption.

To install the ZyXEL G-220 wireless USB adapter:

  1. Remove the "cap" of the ZyXEL adapter to expose the USB connector. The cap is the portion with "ZyXEL" on it.

  2. Plug the ZyXEL USB connector into an available USB port on your computer. You should see a message in the bottom right corner of your monitor informing you that new hardware has been found and that drivers are being installed. An additional message will display when the driver installation has completed.

    • Note: It isn't necessary to install the ZyXEL software when using Windows 7. The security settings that could be setusing the ZyXEL software will be entered in a later step.



Step 4: Configuring the network

  1. Click Start in the left Taskbar and then select  Control Panel. [Show Me]


  2. Click View Network status and tasks under the “Network and Internet” heading. [Show Me]


  3. Click Manage wireless networks in the left navigation panel. [Show Me]

     
  4. Click Add in the top left toolbar as shown below.

Step 5: Connecting additional computers to your Verizon 9100 wireless network

If you have additional computers you want to connect to your wireless network, please follow the directions below. If you have no additional computers to connect, you can skip to Step 6.

Connecting additional computers to your Verizon 9100 wireless network requires 3 steps:
  1. Determine if the computer you're adding to the network has a wireless network adapter installed.
     
  2. Install and configure the ZyXEL wireless USB adapter, if your computer doesn't already have one installed.
     
  3. Connect to your wireless network.

The final step is to confirm that all your network computers and devices are connected and working properly.

  1. Click Start in the left Taskbar.


  2. Click Computer. [Show Me]


  3. Click Network in the left navigation panel. [Show Me]


  4. Each computer connected to your wireless network should be displayed.

  5. If an icon for your current computer isn't displayed
    • Click Network and Sharing Center in the toolbar. [Show Me]
    • Click Troubleshoot problems. [Show Me]
    • Select Internet Connections, click Next and follow the prompts. [Show Me]
    • If the Internet Connections troubleshooting process doesn't solve the issue, click Close the troubleshooter to return to the Troubleshooting - Network and Internet window.
    • Select Network Adapter, click Next, and follow the prompts to check your wireless adapters and settings. [Show Me]

  6. If an icon for another computer on your network isn't displayed
    • Go to the computer that isn't displayed and click Start in the left Taskbar.
    • Click Computer. [Show Me]
    • Click Network in the left navigation panel. [Show Me]
    • Click Network and Sharing Center in the toolbar. [Show Me]
    • Click Troubleshoot problems. [Show Me]
    • Click Internet Connections, click Next and follow the prompts. [Show Me]
    • If the Internet Connections troubleshooting process doesn't solve the issue, click Close the troubleshooter to return to the Troubleshooting - Network and Internet window.
    • Select Network Adapter, click Next, and follow the prompts to check your wireless adapters and settings. [Show Me]
