How can I protect my computer from viruses and worms? You can protect your computer by:
  1. Using antivirus software
    • Antivirus software like runs in the background to check email messages and other activities to prevent viruses from infecting your computer.

    • The Verizon Internet Security Suite includes antivirus software that blocks viruses and worms from infecting your computer.

      Note: The Verizon Internet Security Suite is available to Verizon Online customers for an additional monthly charge.

  2. Using a software or hardware firewall
    • Firewalls provide a barrier between your computer and the Internet. Inbound and outbound Internet traffic are monitored to prevent viruses from reaching your computer.

    • The Verizon Internet Security Suite includes a firewall that helps to protect your computer from viruses and worms.

      Note: The Verizon Internet Security Suite is available to Verizon Online customers for an additional monthly charge.

  3. Filtering spam before it gets to your inbox
    • Spam filtering helps prevent junk mail from reaching your inbox. If it never reaches your inbox, there is less danger that you will accidentally open it and activate the virus.

    • Verizon Online provides Spam Detector to identify, filter, and then immediately delete spam before it clutters your inbox.

  4. Regularly backing up your files
    • Regularly backing up your files doesn't directly protect your computer from viruses. Instead, it enables you to restore any files the virus may have destroyed.
