Creating a wireless network with a Westell VersaLink 327W gateway


  1. If the Modem Secure user name and password window displays, enter your VersaLink gateway user name and password. If you did change the user name and password during initial installation, the default user name is admin and the password is password. [Show Me]


  2. Confirm that the Wireless Operation field is set to Enabled. This is the default.
  3. [Show Me]

  4. Enter a name for your wireless home network in the Network Name (SSID) field. The SSID is case sensitive and cannot exceed 32 characters. You must enter the exact same SSID for each device connected to the network.

  1. Do not change the setting in the Channel field.


  2. Select the appropriate mode from the Mode drop-down to indicate the type of hardware you're using.
  3. [Show Me]

    • If all of your hardware is 802.11g, select 11g only
    • .
    • If all of your hardware is 802.11b, select 11b only
    • .
    • If you have some hardware that is 802.11g and some that is 802.11b, select Mixed.
    • Select Mixed if you're unsure whether you have 802.11b or 802.11g hardware.


  4. Confirm that Enabled is selected in the Hide SSID drop-down list.
  5. [Show Me]

  6. Click Save.


  7. Click Ok if the warning prompt displays a reminder that changing the SSID requires that you also reconfigure your wireless network adapters on the other computers.[Show Me]
