Responsibilities

Provide leadership and subject matter expertise
•   Able to work in fast paced, highly dynamic and pressured environment
•   Design and engineer very reliable, high performance and manageable IMS core complexes
•   Responsible for purchasing, coordinating the installation of hardware equipment necessary for capacity growth and new functionality implementation for IMS core platforms
•   Interact with many cross functional teams such as National Network Operations (NNO) groups, Planning, Maintenance Engineering, Transport, Provisioning, Data Mediation, Revenue assurance and other organizations, to design and deploy components for best efficiency and reliability. Submit NSRs, PSRs and all other requests necessary to bring the platform on the network. Work with vendors to integrate it into production
•   Motivate and empower team members to stay on course and deliver projects on or before scheduled timelines
•   Lead and co-ordinate performance benchmarking on the platforms: Drive vendors to identify the hardware's best suited for the platform while bearing in mind the space, power and cooling requirements, work with vendors to fully understand needs of the application to optimize System and Storage configuration to achieve higher and reliable capacity ratings
•   Work with Capacity SME and planning organizations, to develop and implement strategies and tactical plans for ensuring sufficient network capacity of IMS core platforms
•   Provide direction to vendors.  Work with internal Verizon Wireless groups to develop and complete design, sizing, and call flow models to ensure platforms being sized and installed to meet performance and capacity requirements
•   Interface with all levels of management and manage multiple projects at one time
•   Effectively manage vendors and work with them to obtain quotes, negotiate pricing, and ensure their products and services meet Verizon Wireless’ requirements and standards.  Hold vendors accountable if their products and/or services fail to meet Verizon Wireless expectations and standards
•   Request authorization for funds, create Purchase Orders (PO’s), and manage procurement activities using PeopleSoft Purchasing system.  Ensure the value of the products and services received are in line with vendor pricing, PO’s are in compliance with company procurement policies, and that invoices are paid on time
•   Perform hands-on system engineering and systems administration work, would require frequent Maintenance window work during the night time
•   Work closely with Operations and Maintenance Engineering groups and provide troubleshooting support when required. Lead troubleshooting where it is appropriate
•   Document system as-built information, call flows and design where it is applicable
•   Train new team members. Provide presentation to other groups when required
•   50% of time will be required for business travel

Qualifications

  • Minimum Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or relevant military experience. Bachelor's or Master's preferred.
  • 7-10 years of Information Systems experience
    • Working knowledge of NSN 3GPP AAA, 3GPP HSS, Tekelec PCRF, ALU IeCCF and Gemalto SIM OTA  and 3GPP2/Bridgewater AAA platforms are highly desirable
    • Experience with system planning, engineering and design including clustering and server farms in a highly-available & complex environment
    • Experience with performance measurement and capacity planning
    • Experience developing support tools on Solaris and Linux using shell scripts and utilities (Perl a definite plus)
    • Experience supporting commercial, 24x7, customer-facing and revenue generating systems
    • Experience with vendor management
    • Knowledge of SAN and other storage systems, their layout and configuration
    • Experience with leadership of virtual team consisting of members from different departments.
    • Understanding of relational database technologies and SQL (preferably Oracle)
    • Complete understanding of IP network services (including IPv6), global server load balancing, routing, and  protocols
    • Demonstrated technical and analytical skills
    • Excellent  interpersonal and communications skills
  • Valid Driver's license required
