Responsibilities

Engineer III Conslt -Systems will be responsible for end to end performance and operation of CDMA/eHRPD Packet Core and LTE Evolved Packet System (LTE EPS). The platforms that comprise both the CDMA/ eHRPD and LTE EPS consist of the 1x/EVDO FA, HA, NgMLS, MME’s, SGW’s, future PDN-GW’s, MPLS COIN network as well as other interconnecting switches and routers and EnodeB. The Engineer-Systems will be focused on ensuring that all elements within the Packet Core are properly load balanced, have the proper redundancy measures in place, and identify and resolve any end to end hardware or software issues. Additionally the Engineer-Systems will be responsible for ensuring that all OA&M functionality of the SAM platform as related to the LTE EPS are working properly, identifying any Performance and Operational issues to VZW MTCE and vendors, and working VZW Engineers, VZW Technicians, VZW MTCE, and vendors to resolve any problems. The Engineer-Systems will also work with the South Area and NNO teams to ensure proper configuration and operation of the remote PDN-GWs, WDN Routers, and CRS PE-Routers. Furthermore the Engineer will be responsible for working with the NSS group as needed in developing specific troubleshooting and monitoring tools used for the analysis and monitoring of the data network.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and distribute detailed technical documentation, deployment strategies, and MOPs.

• Provides subject matter expertise and leadership.

• Assist in the training of other regional support staff.

• Serve as a liaison between various departments to facilitate the resolution of issues, problems, and concerns as they relate to the deployment of network platforms and services.

• Responsible for completing assigned projects accurately and on time.

• Coordinate and manage new data technology trails and implementation

• Interface and escalate as necessary with key stakeholders outside of the Region (NNO, Area Planning, ALU, Cisco/Starent, Juniper, etc…) to ensure projects are completed in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and 2+ years in the cellular/telecommunications industry OR 5+ years of experience in the cellular/telecommunications’ industry with a focus on end to end data networks. CCNA and CNNP certifications are preferred.

 

• Must have a clear understanding of high speed wireless technologies; 1XRTT, EV-DO, EV-DO rev.A, LTE and VOLTE

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience with TCP/IP, LAN/WAN and IP routing protocols (experience with OSPF and BGP required).

• Must demonstrate understanding of the LTE network architecture and the protocols used for call setup and teardown.

• Must understand IP addressing, subnets, VLAN, LAN/WAN (MPLS, Ethernet, 1/10-GigE, and OC3-OC192.)

• Experience with Cisco & Juniper infrastructure and operating systems, network design and various protocols (HSRP/VRRP, VPRN, VRF).

  • Experience engineering, monitoring, and growing large, complex data networks.
  • Excellent understanding of PDSN, FA/HA, and AAA servers.
  • Must understand SIP, MIP and 3G technologies as well as VoIP and related protocols (H.323. SIP).
  • End-to-end system comprehension and troubleshooting experience with wireless voice and data services. Must have  hands on expereince on Sniffers.

• Experience in Alcatel-Lucent wireless switching environment desirable.

• Proficiency in UNIX/Linux.

• Programming/Scripting experience desirable.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.

• Must have strong work ethic, integrity and work extremely well in a team environment.

• Must possess a proactive work style with the ability to set priorities, work with minimum supervision and with a diverse group of professionals.

• Must be detail oriented and able to follow up through to completion on all assignments/projects/deadlines.

• Must have the initiative to independently identify issues, come up with timely, creative solutions, and own issues through resolution.

• Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels of management.
