The Database Manager will manage senior and mid-level Oracle database developers as well as consulting resources. He/she will be primarily responsible for the logical architecture of all Oracle databases. This individual will manage his/her own budget and resources. This is in a Software Engineering department and does not support IT business sytems, instead, the team supports the flagship web product offered by Networkfleet.

The Database Manager will evaluate the integration of new features with existing features. He/she will make decisions on complex modeling and will drive development. In addition, he/she will bring new technologies to senior management making presentations on industry trends. He/she will be responsible for capacity planning in terms of performance within the system and will need to have a constant eye on the future.

This position will directly manage permanent and contracting resources who are doing Oracle database development that is customer-facing. He/she will receive minimum supervision in managing employees and in controling the data model that backs up our customer-facing products. This position has a great deal of leeway in major architectural changes to the database. For major infrastructure changes that impact other areas, he/she will need to present plans to his/her peers for buy-in.

Manage database development team (permanent and outsourced resources), leading the charge of all database development.

Create high-performing data models for new features and mentor others on how it's done.

Mentor proper development by performing code reviews, training others on standards and appropriate use of Oracle products. Lead proper efficient use of Oracle databases and tools (as used by resources outside of the database team).

Plan for the utilization of new database products (Oracle and otherwise) by proactively watching industry trends. Stay on top of new technologies.

Maintain annual budget as well as plan for next year's budget.


Oracle 10g/11g logical relationial modeling in high-performance systems is a requirement of the position. The person will manage database developers of varying degrees of experience, mentoring those that need it and ensuring coding standards are adhered to. This person will be responsible for presenting monthly and quarterly operational reviews of the database team and system to upper management. He/she will interact daily with the Product Architect, QA manager, Project Manager, Controller and Development Manager. These individuals are mostly his/her peers and he/she will be required to work directly with these individuals in a productive manner.
