Responsibilities

Verizon is at an exciting juncture in transforming its business from providing traditional telecom and video services in a rigid telecom environment to providing existing services more efficiently and rapidly create new innovative services on a flexible services architecture. The flexible services architecture is cloud-based. If you have cloud-based experience, you will be able to leverage your expertise but also address new challenges and applications that are not addressed in a traditional cloud-based services environments. This job is for the initiated architect who has cloud-based technical expertise in cloud management, compute and storage, but equally important, can think out of the box and willing to take on new challenges. Expertise or knowledge of building efficient data centers is a plus. The candidate architect is expected to lead the development of a cloud architecture including a cloud management system that is controlled via Openstack and an SDN paradigm and involve compute and storage virtualization, switching and routing.

In order to accomplish tis task, Verizon is looking for an innovative “out-of-the box” Solutions Architect for Cloud Architecture with deep technical expertise, strong awareness of technology and market trends in areas cloud infrastructure, compute and storage virtualization, and SDN.

Responsibilities

  • Candidate will primarily focus on defining and evolving the cloud services ecosystem architecture.
  • Candidate will be strongly encouraged to identify new services opportunities and initiatives to provide services as products on Verizon hosted cloud environments or third parties’.
  • Candidate will be charged with developing proof-of-concept prototypes as necessary and validate scale etc, working with others.
  • Candidate will be expected to build this cloud architecture environment and prototype by gathering and understanding requirements of various services, designing and implementing solutions.
  • Candidate would engage in technical discussions with customers and market assessment to support strategy and roadmap development.
  • Candidate will evolve to be responsible for a team developing cloud service infrastructure.

Qualifications

Required Technical Skills & Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of working experience with IP and Ethernet networking in a mid-large scale DC and cloud environment.
  • 10+ working experience in mid-large scale DC and cloud infrastructure build-out and management.
  • 3+ year of technical management experience is preferred.
  • Expertise in Cloud Management and cloud management framework and API in an open-stack environment.
  • Experience with open source frameworks like Puppet or Chef for deployment and configuration management is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of IP and Ethernet networking including solid understanding of network protocols (e.g., IPv4, IPv6, ISIS, BGP, BGPMPLS VPNs).
  • Solid SDN understanding is a plus.
  • Solid Compute virtualization understanding.
  • Solid understanding of storage technologies.
  • Strong ability to assess virtualization, management, and compute/storage technology performance-wise and cost-wise.
  • Strong ability to assess total cost of a design.
  • Strong understanding of DC/cloud facility is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of cloud applications is highly desirable.
  • Technical Team management is a plus.
