Responsibilities

 

  • Ensure stability and quality of video service using EMS, health monitoring systems and MPEG monitoring tools
  • Isolate and Troubleshoot Video Service Network (VOD, IPG, DAC, CSG interfaces)
  • Proactive management and diagnosis of video service degradation using MPEG Monitoring tools and other VNO resources such as CAM, IVO and DMNOC
  • Interpret, correlate, and isolate alarm/soft conditions
  • Interpret video and audio quality, and IPG/EPG data integrity
  • Inventory Management
  • Project management
  • Resource management ( delegating associate ad hoc responsibilities)
  • Assist and/or perform new design and ECR implementation.
  • Validate ECO
  • Validate CCR
  • Validate Engineering check list
  • Restore/Maintain Back-up Paths
  • Document daily bullpen logs/document and distribute reports on health of network
  • Determine if outage is Provider or Network related
  • Interface with third party service vendors (i.e., Miranda, Content Providers, Motorola, Seachange, Microsoft, FYI, CISCO, Erickson)
  • Back up all files and configurations to offsite Data repositories.
  • Restore defective devices using offsite config files.
  • Perform and or review all preventative maintenance records on a daily basis.
  • Submit activity request using Mastar system
  • Update Master Content List (MCL)

Qualifications

 

Required Skills and Experience

  • Technical Bachelor's degree preferred or 5 years related work experience
  • 2+ years related cable, satellite
  • 2+ years of experience with digital video, audio and multi-platform experience
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve IP network troubles in the physical, data link, and network layers
  • Exposure to some of the following tools or industry equivalent: Miranda iControl, baseband video router and IP router control, SEMS, VOD Servers, and IPG Servers, NE2K, APEX
  • Experience with Network Management Systems (NMS), Element Management Systems (EMS) and Operational Support Systems (OSS)
  • Understanding of communication networking components (i.e., Routers, Switchers, LAN topology, Ethernet, SONET, SNMP, IGMP, TCP/IP, UDP, Multicast , Unicast, Anycast, IPV4, IPV6,etc.)
  • Ability to perform base configuration on Servers
  • Experience with MS office
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently
  • Team player with ability to communicate across functional organizations
  • Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
  • Ability/willingness to do shift work on a 24x7x365 basis including holidays and weekends
  • Independent decision-making skills, Strong analytical and oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of MPEG2 and MPEG4
  • Knowledge of video compression and encoding technique.
  • Knowledge of statistical multiplexing of MPEG video and audio.
  • Knowledge of QAM and 8VSB modulation techniques.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 1 year experience as a hardware engineer in a multi-channel environment
  • Exposure to interactive TV/VOD or media industry
  • Familiarity with ingest stations, ad-insertion and editing
  • Understanding of Verizon FTTP end-to-end access technology, hardware and software, including FTTP process and systems (vRepair, IVAPP, PON NMS)
  • Knowledge of Verizon’s network installation, provisioning, maintenance and Central Office processes and procedures
  • Software administration, software implementation, software configuration
  • Video over FTTP Orientation, SHE Operations, SHE Products (Engineering) training, DAC Operations, Network controls
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience administering multiple, web-based applications
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience working with Device Configurators
  • Verizon training classes Suggested: Video Over FTTP Orientation, cable/subscription TV operations, and products training, DAC Operations, Network Management
