Job Summary

  • The Public Sector Strategic Solutions Architect is to be responsible for architecting solutions in support of the Public Sector Strategic accounts to which they are assigned. Their role is to help customers expand their own knowledge of their systems/hosting environment, this role will assess gaps between the client’s current environment and their desired business goals. They will own the account’s technical design challenges and technical responses associated with an account. This role will provide technical strategy, guidance and support to the Public Sector Strategic accounts team, Sales and Senior Sales Engineering teams. They will be critical in understanding and documenting customer’s environment, understanding the client’s applications, assessing any new requirements, and then presenting proposed solutions. This role helps ensure that the Verizon is working to assist the account with their long term technical needs as well and ensure their current environment is operating optimally & as designed.

The Public Sector Solutions Architect will work as a primary resource to the account by providing;

  • Discovery: Follows a highly adaptive self-defined method to work with customers and understand their business and technical roadmap
  • Diagnosis: Collaboratively explores customers' business problems and how they relate to technical solutions, including the client’s applications and their relationship to our products & services
  • Design: Helps customers understand proposed solutions and how they fit the client’s strategic objectives, recommends approaches inclusive of our products and services
  • Deliver: Work with internal teams to ensure solutions are executable and work with account team to ensure solution is delivered technically correct.

Key roles and responsibilities

  • Work closely with client’s senior management to define and create overall IT roadmap
  • Ensure all initiatives are in line with the overall customer and Verizon  IT roadmap
  • Liaise between the client, client’s application groups and internal Verizon organizations to assure supportability of proposed IT solutions and services provided by Verizon
  • Act as the Trusted Advisor and Subject Matter Expert for all IT initiatives for the customer's environment related to services provided by Verizon
  • Work with Client and Internal teams on the management of the environment’s capacity and capacity trends
  • Develop proposals of solutions recommended
  • Provide recommendations and proposals to client senior management on solutions to improve service levels and operational efficiencies
  • Attend regular meetings within customer's organization/s to identify, architect and recommend solutions
  • Become the account’s technical advocate inside Verizon


Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • Public Sector Experience
  • Experience in a related business & technical field for at least 7+ years
  • Previous experience as a senior sales engineer or solutions architect
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent training/experience
  • Ability to think outside the box 
  • Excellent listening and writing skills required
  • General knowledge of business concepts and mathematics is expected
  • Ability to manage in daily tasks and competing directives is a must

Required Technical Qualifications/Skills

  • Deep knowledge of VMWare, Microsoft OS’s, Cisco UCS, NetApp, EMC, F5, Citrix, RedHat, Linux, Chef, Oracle, Web logic, Puppet, RESTful APIs, MS SQL, Mongo DB, JAVA, IIS, Apache, Tomcat, Mark Logic, .net, Etc.
  • Knowledge of Open Stack, Cloud Stack, Xen, HyperV, KVM
  • Knowledge of commonly used IT and Internet concepts, practices and procedures is a must
  • Knowledge of general concepts around multi-tier security
  • Knowledge of identity management, FW, IPS, IDS, WAF, SIEM, Log Aggregation, Packet Capture, Netflow, etc.
  • Microsoft Visio, PowerPoint, Word and Excel knowledge
  • Basic colocation, cloud, network, security and managed services knowledge
