The DBA Manager role will be the primary promoter of database management best practices to ensure database operation consistency across all of Verizon Telematics. The DBA Manager will be responsible for managing the relationships between the DBA team and other teams within Verizon Telematics.  Additional responsibilities include proactively monitoring resource needs in order to make necessary staff augmentations. The DBA Manager will also be accountable for resolution of issues with the Oracle database and lead members within Database Administration team to attract, grow, and develop talent.  The DBA Manager will also work with team members to create individual development plans and facilitate the execution of those plans

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Manage operational and application DBA support team for development, QA and production databases.  Conduct ongoing capacity planning for production database environment to include growth projections and disk space reclamation; query performance tuning of existing applications, etc
  • Maintain database results by adhereing, setting and enforcing documented processes, procedures and controls.  Plan and communicate deployments and upgrades in an environment with formal change control processes and compliance processes (e.g., SOX and PCI).
  • Performance tune, query optimization and other related monitoring and troubleshooting activities. Perform backups, restores, recovery, database cluster configuration and replication configuration using various methods such as DataGuard or GoldenGate.
  • Develop and deliver long-term strategic goals for overall database management roadmap, database architecture vision and standards.  Secures database by developing policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Communicate with technology customers to provide timely status of requests, initiating and performing changes on production systems and proactively escalate any issues that cannot be resolved within the established time frames


  • Strong experience in all aspects of Database Administration in and Oracle database Server environments. 
  • Review designs and database structures ( stored procs, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints), to identfy oppurtunity for performance improvements.
  • Provide design assistance, analyze and manage database solutions with technical emphasis in performance monitoring, problem identification and resolution.      
  • Hands-on knowledge of single-node and Oracle RAC databases. 
  • Expertise with Oracle database backup and recovery solutions including point-in-time recovery. 
  • Knowleadgeable with Oracle Grid Control or EM 12c.
  • Experience with business requirements analysis, entity relationship planning, and physical database design. 
  • Ability to manage Terabyte+ databases. 
  • Demonstrated ability to write and decipher complex SQL. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication with the ability to articulate ideas to various audiences.


B.S. or B.A required, preferred in Computer Science or related field
