General Summary of Position (primary-purpose and function)

The Director, Design for Lean Six Sigma has the responsibility and accountability for the effective implementation of DFLSS and the achievement of the desired results by coaching a nucleus of Business MBBs and BBs. This person will be recognized as an authority in DFLSS and a thought leader on how to execute complex business projects. He or She brings a wide variety of experience in implementing DFLSS and executing projects.

Position Scope:

This position will report to the Executive Director, DFLSS

The scope of the work will include people at the executive business unit leaders and business level Lean Six sigma leaders, down through Champion levels as well as external consultants

Collaborate/lead with a team of business MBBs (typically at same levels) and deployment DFLSS MBBs.

Lead teams of SMEs at Business to drive DFLSS at strategic level by demonstrating the application of tools and techniques and process methodology.

A significant change agent who not only lead by influence , he or she also takes ownership for business delivery along with Business MBBs and BBs

Principle Responsibilities:

Develop DFLSS content working with external consultants as well as internal MBBs, that includes theory, practical examples, metrics, score cards and also presentation materials for C-suite

Guide development of DFLSS process to suit Verizon specific needs

Proactively supports and leads the deployment of the DFLSS effort in harmony with the overall business vision for the most benefit to the business working with DMAIC/Work out philosophies

Develop project best practice sharing process and implementation of best ideas across enterprise

Holds focused DFLSS reviews with lean six sigma leadership team to assess the progress, status and issues in the effective application of DFLSS

Supports business Lean six sigma leaders on complex projects, help start up the business or Functional specific deployment.

Acts as an executive consultant on various business needs on business process excellence


Attributes and Skills Requirements:

Proven leadership skills and business acumen to manage ambiguity and create a disciplined outcome.

A change agent

A quick learner to assimilate company's strategies and change philosophies, company’s core value streams as well as the primary products and services

Excellent presentation skills with solid communication capabilities and practices, both oral and written

Has a broad experience and skillset in Design/development (that may include technology, system solutions, product management, market lunch, services or IT )

Skillful in relationship building and negotiating, and will demonstrate a strong “can do” attitude


Demonstrated complex program management for Lean Six Sigma

A certified MBB or a BB with proven track record with DFLSS

4-year degree in engineering, business, or technical discipline

Graduate degrees highly desirable

Proven record of performance and trusted professional credibility
