As a Sr. Storage Engineer your objective is to define, test, and document configuration standards within the Cloud Computing architecture specific to Storage.  Document implementation SOPs for all facets of storage architecture.  Provide knowledge base articles to enable Support organization to be successful in supporting the solution and meet customer SLAs.  Provide lifecycle and compliance management for all storage infrastructure components.  Collaborate with vendors to maintain 18 month rolling vision and plan ensuring cloud and multitenant storage solutions remain current and provide services required by the business and the markets Verizon supports.  Integration and functional testing for all physical and logical changes planned for the architecture along with proactive planned maintenance to maximize availability and reliability of the platform.


  • Architect, design, and test Verizon Cloud Storage block based storage product
  • Architect, design, and test DAS, NAS, FC, and SAN storage solutions for the Verizon Terremark product portfolio
  • Validate vendor support matrices for all configuration items (hardware and software) within a storage solution
  • Develop standardized storage and server configurations for SCSI and SAN storage solutions on ESX, Wintel, and *nix platforms
  • Test and evaluate SAN switch hardware and firmware
  • Test and evaluate HBAs, HBA firmware, multi-path software, and other software components within the context of DAS, NAS, and SAN storage
  • Test and evaluate storage processor operating system releases for NetApp, 3Par, and EMC
  • Test and evaluate all required configuration item releases within a fiber channel, SAN, and NAS configurations
  • Produce test plans and test summaries for all products
  • Produce Implementation SOPs for storage products
  • Produce knowledge base articles enabling support
  • Provide tier 4 incident management and problem management to Operations as necessary
  • Remain current on industry trends and identify new technologies that add value to the business


Responsibilities include:


  • Architecture and design for all storage products in the cloud and managed hosting space
  • Adherence to policies, processes and procedures within your areas of responsibility
  • Assistance with execution of projects related to areas of responsibility

  • Working closely with web developers and computer programmers
  • Developing, configuring and maintaining Cloud Computing architecture and related systems
  • Developing test sets for monitoring cloud platform functionality through 24X7 monitoring systems


You are expected to maintain a working, interactive relationship with both internal and external customers to gather requirements and to address escalated concerns.


You are expected to stay current and proficient on emerging technologies through self-study and internal training, and meet all internal certification standards for skill sets identified within the realm of responsibility.


 Required Skills/Background

  • 5+ years of broad-based IT experience with technical knowledge of network, hardware, storage, operating systems and applications. Windows or Linux, must be proficient in at least one
  • 5+ years of enterprise storage experience
  • 3+ years virtualized storage, block storage, software defined storage experience
  • Industry-related certifications (MCITP, MCSE, MCDBA, VCP, etc.) a plus.
  • VMware administration ESX 3.5, 4.x, 5.x
  • Excellent documentation, communication and interpersonal skills.


Preferred Skills/Background

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Shell/Powershell/Perl/other scripting language
  • Ability to efficiently prioritize and organize competing work demands with little oversight.
  • Bachelors Degree
