Significantly contributes to the delivery of financial and/or accounting services as an Individual Contributor working in specific areas within Finance and/or Accounting. Demonstrates sound knowledge of financial, accounting and additional support systems. Works to support the team as assigned enabling the business through technology enhancements with various assigned tasks to collect and assimilate data. Demonstrates understanding of systems and interdependencies of processes to drive the business toward the development of systems that enable processes.  A further key responsibility of this position is to identify any improvement opportunities in this area and, if asked to, contribute to the design and implementation of new processes or procedures as a result of identifying improvement opportunities. Value is provided to the enterprise by constantly improving the processes associated with the delivery of specific Finance and/or Accounting services to provide timely, accurate information and to ultimately safeguard Verizon assets.

  • Provides subject matter expertise on complex processes or issues to the assigned team and work stream
  • Maintains ongoing interaction with internal client groups and other functional areas relating to objectives, deliverables, resource allocation and related matters
  • Develops, implements and maintains systems, procedures and policies for their assigned work stream or function(s)
  • Ensures compliance with internal policies and controls, and with external regulations
  • Undertakes complex projects and provides guidance on project related issues as needed
  • Fields issue escalations from internal customers or delivery partners and responds to customer inquiries as requested, ensuring issue and error resolution
  • Assists in assessing the services delivered by the service providers (if any) and validating that performance metrics are met as applicable

 Specific role responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recognize, recommend and institute operational improvements that contribute to meeting operational metrics within the Special Projects Billing (SPB) group
  • Identify and implement new and innovative processes that simplify functions, improve efficiency and provide excellent customer service
  • Partner with Engineering, Operations and IT to develop requirements for multiple new projects that streamline the billing and collection processes
  • Develop programs or projects in support of organizational strategies; communicate & translate functional/operational goals into team goals; manage implementation of policies and procedures
  • Facilitate internal and external audits relative to the billing systems and reconciliations of SPB General Ledger accounts
  • Prepare monthly reports and analysis for utilization by FP&A and SPB management including:  team metrics, bad debt, operations reports as well as adhoc requests
  • Investigate and facilitate issue resolution related to systems, business processes, uncollectables, and reporting
  • Assist with collections activities as warranted; monitor AR contact owners and escalate unresolved issues
  • Monitor and correct SPB related post billing errors via ECF (Error Correction Facility) daily and month end



 Required Education, Skills & Experience

  • Requires BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent work experience
  • 2 years of project management experience and/or certification
  • Ability to effectively communicate and lead a project team as well as execute multiple projects simultaneously
  • Consistently achieves desired business results by taking personal accountability, effectively organizing and planning work, setting priorities and executing ambitious action plans
  • Administrative and interpersonal skills are a must
  • Excellent PC skills with proficiency in working with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint)

 Preferred Education, Skills & Experience

  • Employees/Candidates with professional certification (e.g. CPA, CMA) are preferred
  • Experience in the preparation of general ledgers, detailed transaction processing, basic knowledge of FASB requirements, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP),  and journal entries
  • Ability to quickly establish and maintain an effective rapport with individuals of diverse backgrounds and professional levels
  • Working knowledge of the following systems: MARS, VSPB, VSAP, Blackline, TRW, SQL, and Quantus
  • Experience in the technology or telecommunications industry preferred
  • Experience with business case development or financial background
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking skills
  • Familiar with call center operations and reporting
  • History of acting quickly and pragmatically under pressure to prioritize and resolve technical issues and problems
  • Willingness to take initiative, originate action and be responsible for consequent decisions
