The Global Payroll and Commission (GP&C) Central Support team is responsible for overseeing business projects that span functions within GP&C; projects/tasks include expense planning/reporting, training, metric reporting, lean six sigma, business process documentation, communication projects and more.  Central Support is seeking a business professional with experience in the following areas - annual expense plan, monthly expense/HC reporting, general ledger work, variance analysis, metric reporting and written communication.  Effective, clear, organized communication is a requirement of this position since it entails working with contacts within GP&C plus other Verizon organizations.


  • Own a portion of the expense plan for Central Support and other functions within GP&C.  Then consolidate your plan with remaining GP&C business unit plans to build total GP&C plan.
  • Assist business units with creating/modifying their individual expense plan submissions, consolidate data and work with Finance contacts to upload GP&C plan into IS (Income Statement) cube.  Validate cube loads.  Maintain clear change control documentation.
  • Report monthly actual expense and HC abiding to a WD schedule.  This includes creating executive communications, leading conference calls with business unit to review expense/HC variances, researching potential GL corrections and working with VP/Directors to develop strategies that ensure actuals are within plan.
  • Explain expense numbers and variances to leadership.  Represent the business units, and understand their unique circumstances and concerns.
  • Oversee in-year budget transfers and hierarchy changes; confirm changes correctly uploaded to IS (Income Statement) cube.
  • Support Verizon’s finance education initiatives, and commit to your own continued development with training related to business skills, financial certification, systems/tools and leadership.  Continuing education is a GP&C priority that supports Verizon’s goal to become a world-class organization.
  • Identify, propose, structure and oversee business projects that span functions within GP&C and/or support Finance Transformation; E.g. International payroll vendor consolidation, commission tool rework, business process documentation, data migration to Verizon repositories, corporate compliance work, coordinate company-sponsored training programs in Lake Mary or other locations.
  • Learn and embrace principles of Verizon Lean Six Sigma (VLSS), work with business units to uphold principles and demonstrate principles in your work.
  • Identify risks and develop strategies that mitigate risk in support of SOX Compliance and/or Business Continuity.
  • Identify relevant metrics across all business units, document how they’d be reported on a monthly or quarterly basis, and ensure metrics are reported in timely manner.
  • Demonstrate and promote healthy conflict management skills with understanding that this role subject to business conflicts that are expected in an environment impacted by change.


  • Master or Bachelor degree
  • 8+ years experience in a related discipline, working with expense and/or capital systems, general ledgers, IS (Income Statement) cubes, accounting, financial analysis, managing business projects
  • Experience with SAP and/or IS cube/general ledger structure, Excel, Access, Oracle, Database Management, Data warehouse, PowerPoint, linking data between tables and/or applications
  • Experienced working with executives/leadership
