Principal Systems Engineer -  will be responsible for the design, implementation, and growth engineering of Georgia/Alabama  region data core elements.  These networks include commercial and internal networks for Mobile Switching Centers (MSCs) and Regional Evolved Packet Core (EPC). The transport network is based in IPv4, IPv6, and MPLS and supports a very large Wireless Data Network (WDN), Wireless Service Network (WSN), Radio Access Network (RAN), and Engineering Data Network (EDN). 


The selected candidate will oversee all engineering aspects of new technology implementation and support design of the data core network, associated adjunct elements and monitoring tools.  Responsibilities include creating regular usage / forecasting reports and planning for data network capacity issues as well as participating in cross-functional projects. They will be asked to provide core project status updates to Regional, HQ, and Area personnel and serve as liaison between Operations, System OPS and Area planning. The engineer could also be asked to manage new data technology trials and implementation (FOA),

The engineer will manage the associated capital budget, including purchasing, receipt and in-service CIP timelines. Data engineer will have engineering responsibilities for multiple routing and switching platforms including Cisco 1002/6500/9010/CRS, Starent ST-40/ARES 5500, Juniper MX-960/EX-8216, Ericsson MME/SGW, Alcatel-Lucent 7705/7750.





Must have a clear understanding of LTE and CDMA  high speed data wireless technologies; EV-DO , LTE and the Evolved Packet Core.
Minimum of 5 years experience with TCP/IP, LAN/WAN and IP routing protocols (RIP, OSPF, BGP).
Must understand IP addressing, subnetting, VLAN, LAN/WAN (MPLS/VPN, Ethernet, GigE
Experience with Cisco Routers and infrastructure (Native & XR IOS), Network Design and protocols (HSRP) and Cisco catalyst switches.
Good understanding of MPLS networks and protocol layer architectures. 
Experience engineering, monitoring, and growing large, complex data networks.
Excellent understanding of MME, SGW, PGW/XGW, HSGW/ PDSN, HA, IXRNC, and FA.

Understanding of  EHealth, Netscout Sniffers, Wireshark

Must understand SIP, MIP and 3G technologies as well as VoIP and related protocols (H.323. SIP, MGCP).
Experience in wireless switching environment (Nortel, Lucent) desirable.
Experience working with multi-regional budgets and forecasts desirable.


Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Networking, or Computer Science or equivalent experience.


Certifications CCNA, CCNP, and/or JNCIA, JNCIS a plus.


Must have strong analytic, interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) along with Ability to be intuitive and resourceful while handling multiple project simultaneously are required.

Strong project management skills required.

Must possess a proactive work style with the ability to set priorities, work with minimum supervision and with a diverse group of professionals.

Must be detail oriented, very good communication skills, and able to follow through to completion on all assignments/projects/deadlines.

Must have the initiative to independently identify issues, come up with timely, creative solutions, and own issues through resolution

Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels of management.
