Summary

Performs all types of construction work.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

A. Places, rearranges, and removes various telephone cable and/or drop wire on poles or underground.

B. Digs holes, places poles, lays cable and conduit or unreels, pulls and strings wire and cable from pole to pole; connects/splices wires/cables to terminals and attaches/detaches various hardware to wires, cables, building or poles.

C. Makes cross connections in B boxes.

D. Reads, interprets, and understands work order prints and cut sheets.

E. Tests for gas and environmentally hazardous waste water.

F. Empties water, and debris from manholes.

G. Climbs poles and ladders.

H. Works aloft, underground in manholes, ditches and in close quarters.

I. Operates heavy equipment such as large trucks, winches and ditch-digging equipment.

J. Interfaces with property owners and customers at job sites.

K. Prepares and maintains various reports/records and keeps an accounting of all materials used.

L. Follows all appropriate laws, Company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

A. Tests - Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the Company, in accordance with Company policy.

B. Read, write and speak English.

C. Add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers.

D. Fundamental knowledge of principles of basic electricity.

E. Physical condition to perform job duties including seeing/hearing; fingering/feeling/handling/reaching; bending/crouching/squatting/ kneeling; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying weights in excess of 100 pounds (very heavy work).

F. Obtain/maintain certification to climb poles and ladders.

G. Possess and maintain valid driver's license and safe driving record.

H. Requires obtaining/maintaining a valid Class A, Combination Driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.

I. Tolerance to work aloft and in confined spaces.

J. Possess manual dexterity and able to work with small hand tools.

K. Fundamental knowledge of job-related equipment.

L. Tolerance to work with chemical solutions.

M. Tolerance for working with noise.

N. Tolerance for working in outdoor environment including prolonged walking or standing on various surfaces or uneven terrains.

O. Fundamental knowledge of cable cuts/transfer records/prints.

P. Flexibility to work varied hours/days (holidays, weekends, overtime/call outs).

Q. Must possess the ability to perceive difference in colors.

R. Must possess the ability to distinguish audible tones/levels.

Salary Information

Hourly Rate: $13.98 - $30.13

Additional Information

This position requires a CDL-Class A license. The selected candidate will have to have this license prior to being placed in this position.  They must currently hold this license.

 The hours are typically  8 - 5 and will be based on seniority.  Training will consist of Line and Construction training.

 The Line Worker sets pole lines, runs cable/fiber, place guy wires.
