As Verizon is evolving the product portfolio across enterprise, mobile, and consumer business segments, the underlying network infrastructure needs to evolve to support highly scalable, reliable, and cost effective end-to-end network solutions.  Virtualization and Optimization at the network and infrastructure level is a critical component, including developing evolution plans for existing applications, selecting new technology platforms,  developing alternative network architecture and designs, working with vendors on multi-year roadmaps, and coordinating the introduction of new technology /designs into the network across several organizations.  

This job will primarily focus on leading network designs for requirements development, infrastructure analysis, and virtualization applicability for infrastructure elements, predominantly related to Media Services:  Voice, Video, and Collaboration services and devices.  The job will also involve developing network designs for selected platforms on a migration path to a virtualized infrastructure, including connectivity optimization and evolution, alarming, operational concerns and management, scale requirements, hardware and software (bare metal, containers, para-visualization, hardware emulation, x/hypervisors, and management software), vendor roadmap and management, capacity and reliability, etc.

Candidate will be responsible for developing multi-year plan and guidance on infrastructure components.    

Candidate will be responsible for developing network designs (including templates, configurations, vendor recommendations, lab / introduction plans, infrastructure-based cost-benefit orchestration, capacity guidelines) for virtualized infrastructure components, including First Office Application and introduction of design to network in Planning role.

Candidate will perform proof of concept testing to validate the designs and develop network platform / product test requirements and coordinate the testing activities with the test teams.

Candidate will drive vendors to develop multi-year technology roadmaps


Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience preferred.

 5+ years of experience in a tier-1 Service Provider network developing media-based architecture / designs including CARRIER CLASS network design principles

Strong Service / Application/ Infrastructure experience (SBC, Switch, Router, Firewall, IP Media Application) and IP network technology background across a wide variety of products, vendors, and platforms

Deep technical expertise with Virtualization, VoIP, SIP, SDP, WebRTC, IPv4/IPV6, MPLS, Ethernet, SDN, Physical-to-Virtual (P2V), Storage Arrays, Virtual Machines (VM), Hypervisors, Open-Source, Dynamic Resource Management

Demonstrated Hands on expertise and configuration development for Cisco and Juniper router platforms.

Strong hands on experience with designing and implementing media / signaling based services,  products, or network applications

Ability to co-ordinate large scale network design projects across multiple stakeholder organizations

Ability to conceptualize and develop multi-year network evolution roadmaps

Excellent written and verbal communications skills to clearly and regularly communicate status, issues and risks

Ability to manage and prioritize across multiple complex large scale projects
