Position Responsibilities:

  • Review ILEC financial results for regulatory accounting compliance, keeping abreast of changes in GAAP accounting and evaluating the impact on the Regulated results, and the required periodic filings.    Develop recommendations on proper regulatory treatment of such changes and implement process changes as necessary.  This requires expertise in company financial operations and systems, interrelationships between leading and non-leading ledgers, strong knowledge of GAAP, and understanding regulatory accounting rules, how they differ from GAAP and why.
  • Work with accounting and tax teams to develop and ensure that processes are in place to account for GAAP versus Regulatory differences on the appropriate ledgers and make recommendations for the proper Regulatory treatment when new or unusual accounting activities occur.
  • Prepare balance sheets, income statements and other financial reports and supporting schedules that are filed with various federal and state government agencies.  Prepare complex analysis of reported results to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the State and federal filings and address issues with reported results.  Review results of analyses with upper management to allow for officer certification of filings. 
  • Prepare revenue returns used to assess regulatory fees for ILEC and LD Wireline Entities and be accountable that they are properly prepared and follow the individual guidelines regulated by each state.  Develop recommendations for process improvement and research ways to minimize the resulting assessed liability.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on GAAP and regulatory accounting issues being responsible for providing decisions/recommendations to management on appropriate treatment
  • Provide financial and accounting expertise to legal and regulatory teams, including the preparation of financial exhibits used in regulatory proceedings with the State Public Utilities Commissions.
  • Assist with various regulatory and tax audits that rely on regulatory accounting data.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in accounting, finance, or related field
  • Experience with Verizon financial systems, such as Peoplesoft, SAP, Hyperion
  • Excellent analytical skills, with strong Excel skills
  • Good communication skills, ability to work cross-functionally with groups both inside and outside of the Finance organization
  • CPA or other professional certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related discipline

Desired

  • Oracle or similar database, SQL or Microsoft Query
  • Telecommunications experience
  • MBA
