Manager Network Engineering

Responsibilities

Global Engineering Solutions (GES) is the technical design authority (TDA) for Verizon-managed customer networks. GES owns the customer’s network architecture and low level design, and during the life cycle is responsible for the implementation of all design-impacting changes, architecture reviews, capacity management, problem management, etc. for the customer.  The technical scope of GES includes WAN & LAN, WAN Optimization, Wireless LAN, Data Centre, IP Telephony and IP Services (DNS, DHCP, IPAM) engineering and various other network-based technologies.

 

GES is looking for a Manager Network Engineering with the following responsibilities.

  • Direct staff management
  • Budget accountability.
  • Responsible for the leadership of a team in support of customer network engineering.
  • Leading change within the team
  • Communicates and translates functional/operational goals into team goals; manages implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Management administrative tasks, such as time management.
  • Resource management.
  • Escalation management.
  • Interfacing with other organisations within Verizon, e.g. Operations and Sales.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge: General understanding of company products and networking technologies in order to be able to understand technical issues that are being escalated.
    Advanced skills to perform complex work for a functional area and general knowledge of other areas; requires independent thinking; demands full use and application of principles, theories, concepts and technologies.
    Has advanced knowledge of business processes (e.g. ITIL, Project Management) and the impact thereof on the technical environment. Having a Master of Business Administration (MBA) grade or studying for one is desired.
    Fluency in English required, proficiency in other major languages desired.
  • Attitude: Shows example attitude, being available for the team, other teams or customers when needed, at the same time finding a healthy work-life balance.
  • Ethics: Deeply understands company ethics and able to coach the organisation to awareness of these. Exemplifies this through personal behaviour.
  • Communication: Absolute proficiency in personal and business communication at all levels from operational engineering to customer CTO level.
  • Leadership: Receives broad guidance and is accountable for the team.

  • Organisation: Has several years’ experience with telecommunication organisations as well as with a number of international companies. Knows the way within Verizon to access resources and people needed at the own functional level.
  • People: Coaches and guides the team at all levels and from all perspectives. Acts as spokesperson on behalf of the team to other teams and to customers.
