MANAGER – Solutions Architecture (Complex Deals)

This position will manage a group of second level engineers specializing in out-of-the-ordinary access solutions providing support to first level solutions teams. This group will be responsible for creating or refining access solutions for clients with complex access requirements. The complexity of these designs are driven by unique combinations of high bandwidth requirements, demanding operational requirements, diversity and resilience requirements, difficult to reach location requirements, security and privacy requirements, and other requirements on a design-by-design basis.

The manager will need to understand and coach the group in use the transmissions technologies used for access solutions, including, but not limited to, SONET, Ethernet, DWDM, TDM, and Fiber Optics. The manager will need to be able to analyze the economic impacts of building access or leasing access and other factors while managing the profitability of solutions. The manager must be able to mentor and coach the group to work with internal engineering, pricing, product marketing, sales, and solution architect groups, outside transmission system providers, and equipment vendors to provide cost effective solutions for customers while maintaining profitability for Verizon.

The manager must be comfortable working with, presenting to, and negotiating with management and executive level personnel within Verizon and vendor organizations. The ability to quickly understand requirements, develop solutions, and concisely explain them is critical to the manager’s success.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage opportunities with a P&L perspective. Develop deal economic awareness and ensure delivery of cost and price optimized access solutions.
  • Lead team of Solutions Architects to drive excellence in solutions development and strategic engagement with assigned opportunities to maximize sales efforts.
  • Identify opportunities for effective technical support to field architect teams.
  • Monitor and redirect efforts and resources as appropriate to maximize sales results and positive P&L outcomes including solution cost control and margin management.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with senior management and executive levels.
  • Interface directly with client personnel at all levels as required to provide consistent, high quality technical support and to develop sales/service opportunities.
  • Participate in executive briefings and customer presentations.
  • Conduct periodic operations reviews with SAs to maintain a focus and cadence on excellence.
  • Ensure all SA's complete training against assigned curriculum roadmaps in timely manner.
  • Conduct frequent, regular one on one sessions with each SA.
  • Address performance concerns and ensure performance improvement plans are implemented when necessary in accordance with HR guidelines.
  • Accelerate strategic service solutions bundles.
  • Look for the opportunities to reduce costs and increase productivity.
  • Manage budget to 100% versus plan.
  • Consistently share successes and expertise across the SA community including product training as-needed.
  • Engage peer organizations to resolve customer issues.
  • Provide timely market information, drivers and customer feedback to our partner organizations for product and technology positioning and enhancements.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline or directly related equivalent experience.  MS or MBA degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in a variety of disciplines related to the selling of IT and managed telecommunications solutions.  Disciplines to include:
    • Physical and Data layer engineering
    • Data and IP Services
    • Managed Network Services
    • Managed Security Solutions
    • Managed Mobility Solutions
    • Cloud Services
    • Data Center Outsourcing
    • Unified Communications & Collaboration Services
    • Financial analysis
  • 7+ or more years as a primary customer facing resource with accountability for end to end delivery  (i.e.  Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, Service Delivery Architect... )
  • 5+ years architecture experience in conceptualization, definition and development of IT and/or telecom based products and service
  • 5+ years of experience delivering customer presentations and preparing customer facing material such as RFP responses, proactive proposals and network/system designs.
  • Versed in TOGAF and/or ITIL standards for architecture and delivery.
  • Strong financial analysis experience (P&L, ROI, cost analysis, business case development, etc.)

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Current and valid industry certifications in one or more of the following preferred:
    • Cisco:  Cisco Certified Design Associate/ Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCDA/CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional/ Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCNP/CCDP), Cisco Certified Voice Professional (CCVP) or higher
    • Juniper, Adtran, and/or other widely used network equipment providers
  • Experience in sales or service of Fortune 500 companies
  • Successful project delivery in a Fortune 100 company
  • “Big 4" consulting experience
