CABLE SPLICER - Installs, maintains, rearranges, repairs and removes cables, terminals and other associated apparatus in the outside plant network as a transmission link for voice, video, data and other special services. Performs other related, marginal duties as required.


Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Receives daily assignments from and is directly responsible to a splicing supervisor.
  • Interprets schematical work order drawings to determine job specifications, material and equipment requirements and establish a plan of operation. Effects problem solving where appropriate.
  • Splices, terminates, connects, cuts off and removes cables, station service drops and wires, cross-connect wires, pressure pipes and tubings, terminals, blocks, frames, protectors, carrier repeaters, flowraters, pressure manifolds, transducers, dams, loading coils, capacitors, build-out lattices, amplifiers, splitters, multiplexers, power inducers, etc.
  • Operates standard and aerial lift vehicles and manual, hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, electronic, gasoline, propane and power actuated tools and equipment.
  • Performs a battery of quality tests for new and in place facilities.
  • Locates cable and associated equipment faults, effects repair and restores service outages.
  • Maintains records, prepares reports and corrects work order drawings to as built plant.
  • Operates and maintains wheel mounted "backhoe" for excavation and backfilling operations, as well as "road" clearing operations.
  • Majority of work is outdoors. Subject to adverse weather conditions, dirt, dust, noise, fumes, rough terrain, traffic, heat, working in confined spaces, manholes, poles, aerial lifts and platforms, etc.
  • Daytime tour of duty; occasional scheduled night and weekend work
  • Subject to occasional scheduled and/or unscheduled overtime and callouts.


  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects such as ladders, generators, manhole covers, pullbox covers, etc.
  • Ability to climb poles and ladders.
  • Ability to push/pull heavy objects such as aerial platforms, racking and forming cables.
  • Ability to work in confined areas for long periods of time.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Requires alertness and attention to detail.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Type 4 State of Hawaii driver's license within the first 4 months on the job. Able to meet medical and driver certification requirements as established by the DOT Federal Highway Safety Act. Not restricted to daylight hours.
  • Ability to obtain D.O.D. security clearance.

Salary Information

Hourly Rate: $1.00 - $1.00
