Job Responsibilities

Your primary responsibility is to ensure GNOSC (Government Network Operations and Security Center) customers receive professional service and prompt response to their needs. You will support the Tier-1 / Service Desk function within the GNOSC supporting our managed network customers 24/7/365 – this means initiating and working Tier-1 tickets, responding to trouble calls from customers and doing network surveillance as assigned by the shift lead. The position is full time – eight hours per day supporting the Day Shift.


  • Learn: physical topology and logical design for the customer’s network; customer and Verizon-provided equipment (Cisco/Juniper).
  • Communication: answer all in-coming calls in a timely manner; provide status to the customers on the progress of their tickets within the prescribed time per the SLA.
  • Monitor: use various network surveillance systems responsible for reporting the health of the multiple customer networks the GNOSC manages, and act upon faults when necessary.
  • Troubleshooting: ensure that all tickets are driven to resolution; examine physical layer and logical problems with this network utilizing tools for ticketing, router access, circuit layout, automated circuit testing.
  • Interact: directly with other Verizon Business and Local Exchange Carrier groups, GNOSC Tier2/3 teams, internal customer teams.



Minimum Qualifications

Experience dealing with customers during service requests, problem resolution and operating under service level agreements. Hands-on experience in a NOC environment with Cisco or Juniper routers and LAN switches. Understanding of networking protocols such as IPVPN, IP, MPLS, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP and IPSec. Solid understanding of IPv4 and basic familiarity with IPv6. Experience with network management and performance analysis tools. Good understanding of DNS, NTP, Firewalls, ACLs.

*** Must have or be able to obtain an active DoD SECRET clearance

Additional Qualifications:

One active technical certification either from Cisco or Juniper

College degree (2year or 4year)

Knowledge of ITIL and/or ISO 20000 operating environment
