The Solutions Architect ( Third Party Vendor (TPV) ) supports complex pre-sales opportunities that come under the Deal Lifecycle Management process within Verizon Enterprise Solutions. These opportunities are often global in nature.

The TPV Solutions Architect  works closely with the cross functional team that supports the complex opportunity including the Enterprise or Solution Architect, the Service Delivery Architect, the Client Partner, Sourcing, Legal, Pricing and the Bid Manager amongst others. The role is a demanding one with each TPV Solutions Architect targeted to support ten opportunities at any given time.

The TPV Solutions Architect  reviews the customer’s TPV requirements, technologies, capabilities, contracts and compares them with Verizon’s capabilities to manage/mitigate risks associated with the complex opportunity.  Where a third party vendor is required within the solution the TPV Solutions Architect  will identify which partner to use and agree the selection with the Enterprise/Solution Architect and Sourcing. The Solutions Architect  will then work with the third party under non-disclosure to develop a solution, a Statement of Work, pricing and where necessary a Master Services Agreement. It is a core element of the role for the TPV Solutions Architect  to ensure that the solution, service levels and commercials are world class through benchmarking and negotiation. Hence being able to negotiate successfully at C level is critical. Having a good commercial and analytical ability will be required to ensure that benchmarks are continuously improved upon. In addition to the contracting requirements the TPV Solutions Architect  also needs to capture any requirements in relation to Letters of Authority and contract novation expectations.

Although the role involves many aspects it is extremely important to understand that the key deliverable and the core to the role is building a detailed Statement of Work for what the third party is required to do. As well as working with Sourcing to contract this Statement of Work (SOW) it is the role of the TPV Solutions Architect  to support the Enterprise/Solution Architect and Legal in transforming the vendor contracted SOW into a customer facing contractual SOW. Therefore the TPV Solutions Architect  is not only vendor facing but customer facing. The role therefore requires someone who is extremely competent at writing detailed and often substantial documentation (through multiple iterations) .

As well as supporting the opportunities that require third party vendor elements it is expected that the TPV Solutions Architect  will educate themselves on the products and services of the key partners that Verizon utilizes. This is very much akin to performing product management on these non-Verizon products. By doing this the partner ecosystem and strategy is better understood for future opportunities and to provide proactive support to the wider VES account community. As a result people with strong product management experience are encouraged to put themselves forward for the role.

The TPV Solutions Architect  role is an extremely interesting role given that many of the vendor solutions are cutting edge, niche and sometimes leftfield. On any deal there is only one TPV Solutions Architect  so the role provides autonomy but also requires individual accountability. Given that many requirements are new from deal to deal the role requires a lot of learning on the job and necessitates that the TPV Solutions Architect  is driven to do this and confident in their ability to absorb it. Given that the deals are large and required solutions and price points are challenging the role needs someone happy to meet senior level negotiations head on.


 Required Skills & Experience

Excellent negotiation skills. Strong communication skills in verbal, written and presentations.

A high level of confidence and extremely driven.

Excellent commercial, contractual or product management experience with at least five years of a track record.

A strong university or college degree.


Desired Skills & Experience

Confidence in dealing with technology.  As many of the technologies that arise in the role are new it is understood that the Solutions Architect  will require educating on many aspects. A telecom/datacom background is advantageous but not essential.

Should the applicant be ITIL or Six Sigma qualified that would be of benefit, however training on these will be made available to the Solutions Architect .



3 years of documented and successful vendor negotiation and management

Managed Telecommunications and IT Service experience. Experience in an outsourcing environment is desirable.

Solid exposure to finance, sales and legal practices as applicable to service providers

Ability to identify problems, analyze them and provide potential solutions

Strong familiarity with Complex Deals stage sales process

Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects across various organizations and global regions

Strong knowledge of M.S. Office applications and Share Point

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to produce technical and business reports

ITIL v3 Foundations Certification

Familiarity with Verizon products/services and operational processes

Knowledge of SRM application

BS/BA, or equivalent preferred, 4-6 years of job-related experience.
