Gaining career experience, first-hand

Three ways we’re helping shape the future of work.


For many people, figuring out what they want to be when they grow up can turn into a lifelong pursuit. To help narrow the options, Verizon offers opportunities that allow job seekers to gain hands-on experience in multiple roles. Here are three programs to consider:


  • adfellows is a unique paid fellowship open to U.S. college graduates with diverse backgrounds, looking to break into marketing and advertising. Created by our CMO Diego Scotti, adfellows move through 4 companies, including Verizon, for an 8-month immersion experience, working in roles like PR, creative and client-side marketing. The program aims to create a seismic shift towards greater diversity and inclusion in the industry. Having recently completed its first full cycle, Scotti announced that 90 percent of fellows accepted full-time positions at participating organizations. ​​​


  • Hiring Our Heroes Corporate Fellowships are three-month programs, taking place three times a year at locations and military installations across the country. As a program partner, Verizon welcomes transitioning service members and rotates them through roles around our organization. Once accepted into the program, participants receive on-the-job training, attend weekly educational sessions and get relevant work experience outside of the military. One graduate shared, “The best part about the fellowship is that it is all specific to YOU.” It’s just one way to make the jump into civilian life while refining an invaluable skill set.​


  • Leadership Development Programs provide another way to gain experience. LDP participants rotate through various teams and locations over a two or three year period. Along the way, they interact and network with senior leaders to get their mentorship and learn first-hand how the business runs. With tracks in technology, finance, human resources, marketing and supply chain, these programs cover multiple fields of study and encourage participants to engage in both the role and company while providing compensation and the chance to advance.
