More Than a Billion Enterprise Devices Are on the Internet of Things
Verizon, this week, released a fairly comprehensive report that outlines the size of the IoT market and the scope of its growth. For starters, Verizon (with help from ABI Research) estimates that as of 2014 there were 1.2 billion different devices connected to the Internet, and that the number will rise to 5.4 billion by 2020 for an annual growth rate of 28 percent. Verizon, Ingram Tie-Up Gives Resellers More IoT, Mobility Options
One of the world’s largest tech distributors and the nation’s biggest wireless operator aims announced that they are working together to provide cutting edge technology. Verizon said that Ingram Micro’s mobility division has joined its partner program, a move the companies tout as critical to the direction the channel is moving — toward mobility and machine-to-machine offerings associated with the Internet of Things. Big Data Vendors to Forge a Common Hadoop Base Platform
The Open Data Platform will identify the specific versions of Apache Hadoop and its supporting software that will run together as a seamless whole, potentially reducing the work required on the part of enterprises to build and maintain complex Hadoop-based data analysis systems. (Computerworld)
Biometric Authentication Adoption for Online Banking
Biometrics should not be used in isolation, and should instead contribute to what’s called a ‘multifactor’ authentication scheme, as this can vastly improve identity proofing by pairing ‘something you know’ such as a username and password combination with ‘something you are,’ making it much more difficult for a criminal to hack into systems pretending to be you.
