Keep Your Kids Reading This Summer with the Reading Rainbow App

Many of us have fond memories of the PBS television show Reading Rainbow. Bringing children's favorite books to life with vivid animations, the beloved host, LeVar Burton, kept young readers engaged with his lively narration for 24 years.

Sadly, the show ended in 2009, but mobile technology has brought the magic of Reading Rainbow back with the interactive Reading Rainbow iPad app! Integrating animated illustrations and video clips from the original show, Burton’s narrations encourage today’s young readers, ages three to nine, to build their reading and comprehension skills. Kids pick out books from an extensive, colorful library from several different categories, including "My Friends and Family", “Animal Kingdom” and “Genius Academy”. After finishing each book, readers are rewarded with fun, collectable stickers.

The app is free to download, and after helping your child create a profile, they can pick out one free book. Unlimited books and videos are available for $9.99 per month or six months for $29.99. For an in-depth review of the app, check out this PC Mag review.

If you’re looking for a way to keep your little bookworms entertained over the summer break or encouraging them to spend a little quality time reading, the Reading Rainbow iPad app is a great option.
