New Conferencing Service, Enabled Through Yahoo! Broadcast Solutions,
Allows Organizations to Effectively Webcast Meetings and Events
ASHBURN, Va., April 21, 2003 - MCI today announced a new global video streaming service, powered by Yahoo! Broadcast Solutions. The new service lets companies use existing videoconferencing systems to webcast large-scale meetings and events.
"MCI's video streaming service allows any organization to turn a standard videoconferencing system into an Internet broadcasting tool," said Phil Knell, president of Conferencing services at MCI. "Our industry-leading conferencing, coupled with the Yahoo! Broadcast Solutions' Internet streaming expertise, delivers a best of breed solution for companies to simultaneously reach thousands of customers, employees and constituents around the globe."
According to leading analyst firm The Yankee Group, nearly half of large enterprises use some form of streaming media today, and 80 percent of companies with at least 100 employees will use it for internal or external corporate communications within the next two years.
"Adding webcast capability to existing videoconferencing infrastructures creates a business communications platform that is truly global and can be accessed at any time," said Jeff Schrock, vice president and general manager, Yahoo! Broadcast Solutions. "The increased functionality from this combination of services will help companies more efficiently deliver critical information to key internal and external audiences."
Video streaming is becoming an ever more strategic business solution to reduce travel and on-site meeting costs, improve employee communications, train sales and technical staff, launch products, disseminate critical investor information, and conduct online seminars.
Participating in a webcast is easy. Anyone with an Internet-connected computer, Web browser, and streaming media player can view a webcast. Audience members do not need videoconferencing equipment to participate. In addition, streamed events can be archived and conveniently accessed on-demand to meet participants' schedule constraints.
