MCI Says Note Coupons Will Be Reset

Ashburn, Va., December 14, 2004 - MCI, Inc. (NASDAQ:MCIP) today said that Moody's Investor Services has assigned a "B2" rating to its corporate credit and senior unsecured notes.

According to the indentures, the coupons on MCI's $5.7 billion of notes outstanding are subject to a one-time reset based on initial ratings assigned by Standard & Poor's and Moody's Investors Service.

As a result of the Moody's rating and the "B+" rating received from Standard & Poor's Ratings Services on December 8, the interest rate on MCI's outstanding senior notes will increase by one percent effective December 15, 2004.

The new coupon rates on the Senior Notes due 2007 will be 6.908 percent. The new coupon rate on the Senior Notes due 2009 will be 7.688 percent and the new coupon rate on the Senior Notes due 2014 will be 8.735 percent. These increases in coupon rates will result in increased interest expense of about $56.6 million annually.

The interest accrued on $1,000 principal amount for each of the Senior Note issues for the 43-day period of November 1, 2004 through December 14, 2004 was as follows:

Accrued Senior Notes due 2007 - Coupon Rate: 5.908% Interest: $7.06
Senior Notes due 2009 - Coupon Rate: 6.688% Interest: $7.99
Senior Notes due 2014 - Coupon Rate: 7.735% Interest: $9.24

This accrued interest, together with the interest earned at the higher coupon rate, will be paid at the next scheduled interest payment on May 1, 2005.
