Six-Year, $180 Million Agreement Addresses Organization's
Network and Database Management Requirements Across U.S. and
Canada
ATLANTA, October 27, 1998 -
MCI Systemhouse, MCI WorldCom's (NASDAQ: WCOM) global
information technology services company, today announced a
comprehensive extended-enterprise agreement to provide YMCA of the
USA and local YMCA associations a range of managed network and
database management solutions, and help-desk support.
Initial terms of the six-year, $180 million contract call for
MCI Systemhouse to perform an implementation that will initially
provide services to 9,000 YMCA employees at 700 U.S. and Canadian
sites to access and manage membership program offerings, as well as
scheduling, billing and payment, cash management and cost
information. MCI Systemhouse's Dallas Outsourcing Center (DOC)
will provide seven-day, 24-hour over-the-shoulder support to each
of the 9,000 YMCA employees.
MCI Systemhouse's agreement with Chicago-based YMCA of the
USA has the potential to more than double the contract value and
the number of users supported.
"MCI Systemhouse will provide YMCAs with critical data
management capabilities needed to help improve internal operations
and member services across the U.S. and Canada," said Scott
Ross, MCI Systemhouse president and COO. "Our solution
addresses both the requirements of the national YMCA organization,
as well as the highly specialized needs of local Y's driven by
community characteristics in the areas they serve."
The solution will consist of applications that enable both the
YMCA's national organization and local associations to track
activities ranging from a board meeting to the scheduling of a
summer camp and their associated costs. Armed with such
information, the non-profit YMCA will be able to both better manage
those costs and improve the services it provides to members.
Individual Ys will also be able to use the system to track
merchandise sales, employee skills certifications, tax collection,
staff organization structure and time sheets. Human resource
interfaces will also be installed at a later date.
Collectively, the nation's more than 2,200 YMCAs are the
largest not-for-profit group of related community service
organizations in the United States. Ys across the country are at
the heart of community life, serving nearly 15 million men, women
and children with programs designed to foster the four core values
of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Ys are for people
of all faiths, races, ages and incomes. Financial assistance is
available for Y programs and membership. To find the YMCA nearest
