BELL ATLANTIC NYNEX MOBILE DONATES CELLULAR PHONES
TO EMERGENCY WORKERS AND FAMILIES OF PLANE CRASH
VICTIMS
Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile is working with the New York City Police
Department, Nassau and Suffolk County officials, and the United States
Coast Guard, providing cellular phones to emergency services personnel
at the scene of the tragic plane crash, as well as to the families of
the victims.
At the crash site at Center Moriches, the company has delivered 20
cellular phones for the police and fire departments, and for EMS to
help them coordinate recovery operations. Company employees are at
the scene distributing the phones and providing on-site support.
At the Ramada Inn at Kennedy Airport, company employees have set up a
wireless communications center, providing 50 cellular phones for
victims' family members to make free cellular calls.
Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile's Network Department has deployed a
portable cell site to provide emergency personnel with additional
capacity to ensure their calls are completed. In addition, more than
20 radio channels have been added to the company's cell sites in the
vicinity of the crash site.
