Make A Difference This Earth Day With Verizon Wireless' HopeLineSM Program

Phone Recycling Program Has Helped Thousands of Domestic Violence Victims and the Environment

April 17, 2002

This Earth Day, give back to the Earth and the community by donating your old, unused wireless phone to the Verizon Wireless HopeLine recycling program. With as little effort as it takes to clean out a junk drawer, an old wireless phone can become a lifeline rather than a landfill addition.

The HopeLine program is a first-of-its-kind in that it is on-going and national in scope. Verizon Wireless collects and recycles wireless phones and then either donates the proceeds to non-profit domestic violence advocacy organizations or uses the proceeds to purchase wireless phones for victims. Phones that are scrapped are disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. All wireless consumers can participate by donating a wireless phone at any of the more than 1,200 Verizon Wireless Communications Stores across the country.

As a result of HopeLine and related phone recycling programs the company has organized since 1995, Verizon Wireless has collected more than half a million used wireless phones for the benefit of domestic violence victims and advocacy groups.

"Supporting our HopeLine program helps two important causes simultaneously," said Denny Strigl, president and CEO of Verizon Wireless. "By donating no-longer-used phones to the eco-friendly HopeLine program, customers can help make the Earth a little greener while directly helping victims of domestic violence."

"Verizon Wireless has established a long-standing commitment to assist victims through in-kind donations, public service campaigns and internal employee education programs," said Esta Soler, executive director of the Family Violence Prevention Fund. "The HopeLine program is a simple way for everyone who uses a wireless phone to help victims."

Wireless phones and equipment donations are tax deductible and can be donated at any Verizon Wireless Communications Store or sent to:
