Miller to Direct Verizon Operations In New York's Mid-State Region

VALHALLA, N.Y. -- Tarita Y. Miller has been named director of operations for Verizon Communications' Mid-State region in New York.
Miller, who most recently served as area operations manager for Verizon in Queens, N.Y., will be responsible for operation of Verizon's installation, repair and cable maintenance services in the region that includes Westchester and Rockland counties and portions of Connecticut. Her office is located in Valhalla in Westchester County.
A graduate of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and currently attending New York's Empire State College, Miller began working in 1987 for Verizon, then known as NYNEX, as an operator. She worked her way through the ranks, becoming a service technician in 1994 and a manager a year later.
As area operations manager for Verizon in Queens, Miller was responsible for supervising the work of a 225-person installation and repair work center and a 30-person cable maintenance center. She was instrumental in Verizon's operations in Queens, N.Y., receiving annual service commendations from the New York Public Service Commission for three consecutive years.
In her new position, she will supervise the work of more than 1,000 Verizon technicians and managers, as well as manage the work at 34 network operations centers, with an annual budget of about $85 million.
Miller was the 1998 recipient of the Harlem YMCA Achievement in Industry Award. She is a member of the board of directors for Junior Achievement, as well as the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning, the Vision Service for the Blind, King Manor and JASPO Center for Adults.
Miller lives in Queens with her son, Kyle, and daughter, Shantel.
