New NYNEX Ads Tout Dependability Of Its Local Network

NYNEX People, Know-how Is the Key to Connecting Calls

NEW YORK -- August 4, 1997 -- The NYNEX network handles 120 million originating calls
each business day in New York, but rarely, if ever, do customers think about what
goes on behind the scenes to complete their local calls.

The dependability of the NYNEX network is the focus of a new NYNEX
advertising campaign launched today in the New York metropolitan area.

The campaign, which will run in local newspapers and on radio and television
stations, stresses how the NYNEX network enables businesses to make calls, transmit
data and "surf the net," while NYNEX does the hard part -- maintain the
local network.

The ads also list a toll-free number -- 1-888-728-3837 -- where a NYNEX
representative is available to discuss the many complex choices facing business customers
in today's competitive marketplace.

"New York area companies are constantly being offered competing deals on
their local service, the most critical part of their communications package,"
said Janet Keeler, NYNEX vice president for Marketing Communications. "But before
they make a decision, it's important they consider the experience, reliability and
dedicated resources that NYNEX has in place to keep their local phone service running
as steady as dial tone.

"With more than 100 years of experience under our belt, we believe we can
help alleviate the confusion and assist our customers in making an educated decision
about their communications needs," added Keeler.

The ads emphasize NYNEX's commitment to maintaining and innovating its
local network in the Northeast through some 40,000 service people, 18,000 vehicles
and an annual investment of more than $2 billion.

The ad campaign was developed and produced by The Lord Group, which is
based in New York City.
