Milan - Omnitel Pronto Italia, Italy's first private GSM operator
announced today record breaking figures for its GSM service: 100,000
customers after just three months of commercial service.
According to Paolo Lo Bascio, Executive Vice President Marketing and
Sales, Omnitel Pronto Italia, the number of Omnitel customers is
destined to grow significantly over the next few months in part due to
some new initiatives the company is planning to undertake. "Our
market estimates indicate that over the past 30 days one out of two
customers chose Omnitel. We are particularly pleased and proud of
this achievement and are convinced that working for the customer is
the right approach."
Omnitel continues to build its GSM network at record pace and in just
one year has been able to reach a land coverage of 129,560 square
kilometers serving a population of 42 million. No other GSM operator
has been able to deploy a network this fast. The current rate of
deployment of the network will enable Omnitel to quickly reach new
objectives among which coverage of 50% of the Italian territory, or
84% of the population, by the end of May.
