Verizon Business Enhances Infrastructure in Asia-Pacific to Deliver New Services In-Region
Verizon Business is strengthening its extensive Asia-Pacific network infrastructure by opening a second data center in Hong Kong. The new facility will enhance Verizon's ability to deliver new cloud and data center services in the region - and provide direct access to Verizon's global network - to meet the growing demand of the company's enterprise customers.
This investment is part of the $16.8 billion to $17.2 billion that Verizon Communications plans to spend this year building, operating and integrating its advanced, reliable and high-performance networking and computing platforms.
"Verizon's global network and data center footprint provide the foundation for offering solutions that help enterprises achieve their business goals," said Yali Liu, director of network planning for Verizon in Asia-Pacific. "We continue to expand our presence globally to better serve our multinational customers and to accelerate the delivery of next-generation cloud services.
"Our latest Hong Kong center is strategically located at the gateway to mainland China and is especially important to our clients who want to expand business into greater China and the rest of the Asia-Pacific region."
The new 3,000-square-meter facility, located in the iTech Tower in Tsuen Wan, will feature reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) technology and provide interconnections with the four main local carriers as well as with Verizon's global network, one of the fastest, most expansive and scalable IP networks in the world.
In addition, the center will contain a new Private IP node to extend the company's metro network footprint offering companies direct access to Verizon's MPLS flagship offering, Private IP. A public IP node also will be located in the center.
Expanded In-Region Presence Underscores Verizon's Focus on the Network as the Platform
Verizon's enhanced network computing presence will enable customers to take advantage of a range of IT and communications services in the coming months. Verizon ensures consistently high performance by wherever possible owning and operating its own global infrastructure. With direct access to the submarine cable landing station, this new facility - the ninth Verizon data center in the Asia-Pacific region -- also becomes the third point of presence in Hong Kong for Verizon's global mesh network. This improves resilience and creates additional network path options to seamlessly reroute traffic in the event of multiple undersea cable breaks or other network disruption. Verizon is a leader in deploying global mesh networks, with seven-way diversity across the Pacific and eight-way diversity across the Atlantic.
Hong Kong Center to Accelerate Delivery of Cloud, Data Center Services
The new Hong Kong data center, which complements the Verizon Business data center located in Sino Favour on Hong Kong Island, paves the way for Verizon to provide next-generation computing services to enterprise clients in Asia, in particular enhancing delivery of the company's on-demand global computing solution, CaaS, in region. With a Hong Kong-based cloud-computing data center, Asian businesses will better able to meet stringent local and regional security, performance and regulatory requirements.
The new center will also provide Internet Data Center Services for multinational customers looking to colocate Internet servers or data networking or voice equipment in a secure, flexible, carrier-grade environment. (Note: See related news release on Verizon Data Center Consulting Services.)
Additionally, local customers will have access to a range of other services including: onsite technical support services that are provided round-the-clock, 365 days a year; automated server monitoring and remediation service; remote backup and restore services; onsite media storage management and help desk services.
