Verizon Business to Provide Voice, Data Services to Federal Agencies in Mid-Atlantic Region

ASHBURN, Va. - Verizon Business will provide a range of local voice and data services to federal agencies in five Mid-Atlantic states under a new agreement, valued at as much as $120.8 million, with the U.S. General Services Administration.

The agreement, known as the Mid-Atlantic Local Services Acquisition (LSA) contract, covers three years and four renewable option years.  Under terms of the deal, the GSA and other federal agencies in the Mid-Atlantic region - which covers Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and West Virginia - can immediately buy local voice and data services.  They include Centrex, Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) services, network-based voice messaging, private line data services, and related managed and professional services.

The LSA contract also provides an option to add advanced services, such as voice over Internet protocol (VoIP), in the future.

The contract replaces three Metropolitan Area Acquisition (MAA) agreements that Verizon Business had in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Norfolk, as well as the Mid-Atlantic Access Contract for Centrex Services.

"Verizon Business has provided services to GSA since the early 1970s," said Susan Zeleniak, group president, Verizon Federal, a sales organization within Verizon Business dedicated to serving federal government customers.  "This contract gives us another way to help the GSA and other federal agencies make the transition to Internet protocol services that make possible new capabilities, added flexibility and cost-efficiencies."

Verizon Business is the largest provider of communications services to the U.S. federal government and one of the largest providers of advanced communications and information technology services globally.  The company offers local-to-global network capabilities coupled with a broad range of telecommunications products and services - including advanced Internet protocol (IP) services, professional services, managed network services and systems integration - to all levels of government.

With this broad portfolio of services, Verizon Business can provide federal agencies with one-stop shopping for their communications or connectivity needs. The company has built the next-generation services that are helping to transform the way government customers - and their constituents - do business.
