UNIONTOWN, Pa. - More people in this area can now enjoy the benefits of high-speed Internet access from Verizon Online. The company announced today that Verizon DSL is now available to some 1,650 more subscribers in the area.
"Verizon continues to extend the reach of DSL service to rural, suburban and urban neighborhoods across the state," said James V. O'Rourke, president of Verizon Pennsylvania. "Residents who were interested in broadband but thought that it was not available in their communities may want check with us again regarding DSL accessibility."
The popular service is now available to customers in the communities of Hopwood and Chalk Hill, as well as other Uniontown neighborhoods.
DSL subscribers can have news in an instant, share digital photos, quickly send e-mail attachments, download movies and play interactive multi-player games in real time. DSL-powered businesses can increase productivity by spending less time doing research, paying bills online, and e-mailing orders to suppliers.
Not only is Verizon DSL available to more people than ever before, but Verizon can also help customers make the most of high-speed access to the Internet or other broadband services. For instance, Verizon Online sells and provides technical support for Linksys' wired and wireless routers for creating a home network. With a home network router, subscribers can add additional security and connect several computers to one DSL connection to access the Internet at high speeds. A home network also lets subscribers share files and printers among several computers.
To order Verizon Online DSL or to check whether it is available to a specific home or business, local telephone customers can check online at www.verizon.net or call Verizon toll-free at 1-800-567-6789 (for residential customers) or 1-877-483-5793 (for businesses).
Currently, Verizon Online is offering its basic consumer DSL service for $34.95 a month. Special plans can save customers even more money if they buy DSL from Verizon as part of a package that includes local and long-distance phone service.
"We are building an advanced telecommunications network that will stimulate job and income growth and will make Pennsylvania one of the most attractive locations for corporations and individuals," O'Rourke said.
In addition to increasing accessibility to DSL service, Verizon continues to install fiber-optic cable throughout the commonwealth. Fiber-optic systems use hair-thin glass fibers and digital technology to deliver high-quality telephone service along with sophisticated data communications services. Verizon Pennsylvania ranks fourth among the nation's local telephone companies in fiber-optic cable installed in its network, according to reports compiled by the Federal Communications Commission.
