Verizon Supports Activities for Local Hispanic Community

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Verizon, recognized nationally for its commitment to diversity, is helping to sponsor the 2006 visit of the Mexican Consulate of Chicago to northeast Indiana. Consulate representatives will be using Verizon's super-high-speed FiOS Internet access service at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 2120 S. Harrison, Aug. 3-4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Aug. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and. Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Consulate officials will provide information on marriage licenses, Mexican passports, notary services and other topics. Verizon representatives also will be providing information on FiOS and other products and services.

In addition, Verizon is providing $2,000 to assist with the Grassroots Leadership Development Program, presented by the Hispanic Leadership Coalition of Northeast Indiana. The five-month-long series will help attendees understand immigration issues and citizenship, taxes and voter registration; how to help their children succeed in school; health relationships, public safety and community correction; driving laws and auto insurance; how to effectively influence public policy; and other issues. All participants who attend all nine meetings will receive a scholarship to attend the annual conference of the U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute in Chicago in March 2007.
