Verizon Wireless Celebrates New Store In Pennsylvania's Willow Grove Mall

Company Marks Event With Wireless Phone Donation to Local Town Watch Group

February 14, 2003

Verizon Wireless celebrated its newest Communications Store, in the Willow Grove Mall (first floor), with a grand opening celebration Friday, February 7 through Sunday, February 9. To mark the grand opening - the company's sixth location in Montgomery County - Verizon Wireless donated six wireless phones to the Abington Township Town Watch.

Programmed to dial both 9-1-1 and the local police department, the donated phones will allow crime watch volunteers to summon help quickly in an emergency. The donation was accepted by Dave Rondinelli and Jack Krais of the Abington Township Joint Town Watch Council, and Officer Joe Conover of the Abington Police Department Crime Prevention Unit.

"Every day, crime watch volunteers do the important work of protecting our neighborhoods," said Store Manager Kevin Brenner. "We are pleased to assist the locat crime watch efforts by donating our wireless technology."

The new Willow Grove Mall Communications Store is located on the first floor of the Willow Grove Mall (between Whitehall Jewelers and Macy's) at 2500 W. Moreland Road. Store hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The new store features a wide variety of wireless products and services, including a premier line of price plans, digital wireless phones, data products like two-way text messaging and Express NetworkSM high-speed wireless Internet service, and hands-free calling accessories.

"This expansion represents our ongoing commitment to provide our customers with increased convenience and an accessible, knowledgeable sales staff," said Christine Baron, president of Verizon Wireless' Philadelphia Tri-State region.

The company owns and operates five other locations in Montgomery County: at 1901 Old York Road in Abington; 744 Bethlehem Pike in Montgomeryville; in the Plymouth Meeting Mall on 500 W. Germantown Pike; in the King of Prussia Mall on 160 N. Gulph Road; and 140 Allendale Road in King of Prussia, which opened last month.

Since the inception of the company's HopeLineSM community service program in 1995, Verizon Wireless has collected more than 850,000 wireless phones, providing essential communication tools to people who need a vital link to emergency services in times of crisis. In addition to crime watch programs, recipients of these phones include survivors of domestic violence and crossing guards.
