While their names won't appear on the depth charts, and they will take the field as the smallest and youngest members of the team, ten Wisconsin youngsters will line up with the Green Bay Packers team captains this season as Junior Captains for the official mid-field coin toss at the start of Packers' 2002 home games at Lambeau Field.
The young people will be winners in the Verizon Wireless Junior Captain Contest, a season-long program conducted by the nation's largest wireless provider and the Green Bay Packers. Verizon Wireless is the official wireless communications provider of the Green Bay Packers and Lambeau Field.
Entry forms for the Verizon Wireless Junior Captain Contest are available at any Verizon Wireless Communications Store in Wisconsin. Adults 18 and older can enter and designate a family member or friend, between the ages of 7 and 14, a Junior Captain. One Junior Captain will be named for each exhibition and regular season home game played at Lambeau Field in 2002. Entrants of the selected Junior Captain will also receive four tickets to the designated Packer game. The last day to enter the contest is December 13, 2002.
"We are thrilled to be able to provide this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ten kids in Wisconsin," said Tracy Nolan, president of Verizon Wireless' Wisconsin/Illinois Region. "While their professional football careers will, in all likelihood, be short, we hope their experiences as a Packers' Junior Captain will produce lifelong memories."
