Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading provider of wireless communications, has been named one of the nation's top 100 companies for "unparalleled commitment to workforce development" by Training magazine.
Verizon Wireless was ranked 37th on the magazine's annual list of the "Top 100 Training Organizations in America" for year 2002. The company was praised for its workforce development programs, including new hire orientation using on-line and classroom training, tuition assistance and succession planning.
In its report, Training magazine noted that Verizon Wireless, formed in April 2000, "established a blended learning program for its new hire orientation...(and) replaced more than a dozen separate new hire programs, helping to create a unified culture by presenting consistent information about the brand and culture." Verizon Wireless was the only telecommunications service provider in the top 50.
Marc Reed, Vice President of Human Resources for Verizon Wireless, said: "We're pleased by this special honor. We are committed to our employees' continuing professional and academic development, which is so important to our company's continued success. That commitment helps us provide the nation's best coast-to-coast wireless service to our growing base of 30 million customers. Our workforce is a skilled and well-educated group of 40,000 dedicated people that includes the real life test men and test women who build and maintain the Verizon Wireless network - the nation's largest - and those of us who serve customers every day in our stores and customer call centers."
