The Milwaukee Brewers Wives will team up with anchor sponsor Verizon Wireless in hosting the 13th Annual Brewers Wives Tailgate, a benefit on behalf of Sojourner Truth House, Milwaukees oldest and largest domestic violence shelter.
Scheduled for Friday, July 12, at the new Helfaer Field at Miller Park, the event will include tickets to the Milwaukee Brewers game with the Pittsburgh Pirates as well as a pre-game tailgate buffet and silent auction. The tailgate dinner will be served between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., followed by the game at 7:05 p.m.
Tickets for the event can be purchased by contacting the Sojourner Truth House office at 414/643-1777. Cost is $50 (tailgate and game) or $40 (tailgate) per adult, $20 for children 12 and under.
"Verizon Wireless has been outstanding in its leadership by offering support to Sojourner Truth House," said Kathie Stolpman, executive director of Sojourner Truth House. "Their all-star sponsorship of the Brewers Wives Tailgate is significant in that it helps strengthen the lives of families affected by domestic violence. We are grateful that Verizon Wireless is not a bystander to the needs of victims of domestic violence."
The Tailgate sponsorship extends Verizon Wireless-financial backing and its public awareness support of domestic violence prevention initiatives throughout the state and country. Last year alone, the company, the nations largest wireless communication provider, donated through its HopeLinesm program more than $500,000 to domestic violence programs and more than 4,000 wireless phones, including hundreds of emergency phones for Wisconsin domestic violence victims as well as administrative wireless phones to facilitate the work performed by domestic violence prevention advocates. Verizon Wireless has also produced and distributed public service announcements on domestic violence recognition and prevention. On June 27, the company hosted a luncheon/seminar for Milwaukee-area business leaders, focusing on the impact of domestic violence in the workplace and the steps to confront and correct it.
"We are grateful for the opportunity to be involved with the Brewers organization in supporting Sojourner Truth House and this worthwhile event," said Tracy Nolan, president, Wisconsin/Illinois Region, Verizon Wireless.
"When it comes to fighting domestic violence, Verizon Wireless is committed to having an impact and making a difference."
Verizon Wireless has served as a sponsor for the Brewers-Wives event for the past three seasons.
