Verizon's Tracey Edwards Among Honorees of The Long Island Business News

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - Tracey Edwards, Verizon's vice president for operations for Long Island and other areas of New York, was honored Thursday night (May 14) by the Long Island Business News as one of six women inducted into the publication's Hall of Fame of the island's most influential women.

Edwards was awarded the Hall of Fame distinction by virtue of being selected on three separate occasions for the Long Island Business News' Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business Awards.

In addition to her Verizon career, Edwards also is the director of the Long Island Region of the NAACP, which encompasses 11 branches of the organization.

The LIBN honorees represent the most influential women in the business, government, education and not-for-profit fields and are selected by a panel of business leaders -- based on professional accomplishment, mentoring and community involvement.

Edwards, a Huntington resident, is vice president for Verizon's operations for Long Island and all of New York State, except New York City.  She is at the forefront of Verizon's rollout of its advanced, all-fiber FiOS TV and Internet network across Long Island and in other areas of the state.

In her 30-year career with Verizon and its predecessor companies, she has held various positions in customer service, human resources, network services and quality management.

"Tracey really energizes our New York operations team," said Chris Creager, Verizon president for the Northeast region.  "She is so deserving of this honor not only for her work with our company, but for the care she gives to our customers and her tireless work with community organizations on Long Island.  She is the perfect person to be the face of Verizon on Long Island."

Edwards' community involvement includes past chairwoman of the planning board and former vice president of the Elwood Board of Education; a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Urban League; a member of the Advisory Board of C.W. Post University; and a member of the Board of The Long Island Association.  She also is a member of the Melville Lions Club.
