RadioOnDemand Selects WorldCom to Stream Real-Time Content to Broadcasters
- Live Streaming Content Provider Offers Customized Terrestrial Services to Broadcasters -
CLINTON, Miss. - September 18, 2002 - WorldCom (WCOEQ), today announced it has entered into an agreement with RadioOnDemand, an Internet content provider, to deliver live audio and video streams to its broadcasting company customers. RadioOnDemand's content services enable broadcasters to customize real-time audio and video programming for local markets and demographics.
RadioOnDemand is leveraging WorldCom's frame relay service to deliver more reliable and secure land-based broadcast relay alternatives versus commonly used satellite services that can be impacted by weather and astronomical events. As a result, RadioOnDemand assures its customers' peace of mind that comes with reliable, high quality broadcast streams.
"RadioOnDemand's live relay services are new realities requiring a clear communications solution and a nimble service provider," said Dr. Herbert J. Kuhnert, President of RadioOnDemand. "WorldCom is the only communications provider that took the time to understand our needs, develop a plan and deliver a dependable communications solution that reliably supports us. In today's environment, business partners like WorldCom are essential in order to effectively compete with entrenched satellite providers and traditional broadcast methods."
RadioOnDemand is using WorldCom frame relay data service to connect its servers in California with each of its customer locations. As RadioOnDemand's business grows by adding new customers and more broadcasting stations, WorldCom's frame relay solution will be able to scale to meet new customer demand.
Based in California, RadioOnDemand empowers commercial broadcasters with the ability to tailor their network programming and operations -- "on the fly" -- from central locations. Its land-based design allows broadcasters to create and mix individual programming in real-time for affiliate stations from a central location using a virtual console mixer. Without using satellite feeds, broadcasters may now offer affiliates local weather, traffic, news, and events. Additionally, broadcasters may offer advertisers targeted services directed to specific markets. Less monotony and more variety in programming keeps listeners and advertisers tuned in.
"RadioOnDemand's custom tailored content approach creates a strong value proposition for our customers," said Dr. Kuhnert. "In the future, with WorldCom's help, we envision delivering customized programming for individual listeners."
"Customers like RadioOnDemand highlight WorldCom's many strengths," said Deborah Surrette, senior vice president of Sales for WorldCom. "With our reliable global network, robust data and Internet services continuum, and employees willing to go the extra mile, WorldCom helps make our customers' business plans a reality."
