A Second Life for Greeting Cards. A New Life for Kids in Need.

Verizon Green team members Barbera Frances, Deb Shugard and Wilmer Johnson help collect used greeting cards.

Here’s easy and meaningful way to extend the sharing and caring spirit behind the greeting cards we all receive during the holiday season – and help sustain the environment, up to and beyond Earth Day:

Donate your used cards to the St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, which provides a home and therapeutic treatment services at three campuses in Nevada and Texas for thousands of abused and at-risk children. Residents and staff members recycle the donated cards and create new ones, which are sold to support the programs and services at St. Jude’s Ranch.

Over the past five years, Verizon’s Green Team members have participated in the Recycled Card Program by collecting and delivering over 500,000 used cards. This year, more than 350 Green Team members from hundreds of Verizon offices collected more than 130,000 cards.

The funds from the program enable employees at St. Jude’s Ranch for Children to transform the lives of the at-risk children, young adults and families.

“We provide a family-living environment, preserve the sibling bond, and supply the tools to break the cycle of abuse,” said Pamela Carlston, development director, St. Jude’s Ranch. “The kids here are always excited to receive used greeting cards from Verizon, as it helps fuel our Recycled Card Program.”

“The program is spiritually rewarding for us,” said Deb Shugard, a Verizon Green Team member. “We love knowing that doing something green can also help provide a creative outlet that teaches entrepreneurship skills to children.”
