Storm Update
This past weekend, tornadoes devastated communities across the South and Midwest.
Verizon is waiving postpaid call/text/data usage incurred from April 3 to May 3, 2023, for Arkansas residents most impacted by the severe weather.

If you’re able to give back, Verizon customers can text TORNADO to 90999 to make a one-time $10 donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
Employees can also donate to our VtoV relief fund, which helps your fellow V Teamers get back on their feet.
Diversity Month
Our UNITED ERG has a variety of multicultural experiences planned for Diversity Month to encourage us to learn, grow and share our unique experiences that shape our view of the world and how we work together.
Join Sampath, along with Sam Hammock and Kyle Malady, for a hybrid event covering diversity and volunteerism next Tuesday, April 11th.
It’s also Global Volunteer Month, and we have a goal for the month of April to complete 60,000 hours of volunteerism through the Citizen Verizon Portal.
Financial Literacy Month

Eddie’s Tuition Assistance Journey
You may recall an Up To Speed episode from last year featuring V Teamer Eddie Ervin and her journey with Verizon’s Tuition Assistance program. Verizon helped her pay for her masters degree and ultimately helped her land her dream job within the company.
Recently, Eddie had the opportunity to share her story with CNBC, who ran a segment on the benefits of financial education for employees. Eddie shared how Verizon gave her the tools and resources to make the best financial decisions for herself.

Gallup Award
For the third year in a row, Verizon has received Gallup's Exceptional Workplace Award.
This award is given to companies who have built and maintained cultures that are conducive to the new work environment culture and meeting customers’ needs.
HHS Partnership
Verizon Business is transforming the communication systems of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through a $2.5 billion Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions task order awarded in 2020. The end result will be a major technology upgrade converging both voice and data solutions, which, over the duration of the 12-year contract, is estimated to save HHS over $700 million dollars.
FAA Partnership
Verizon is designing, building and operating the FAA’s next-generation communications platform. This work will provide the FAA with a dynamic network to support all of the agency’s mission-critical applications across the National Airspace System – which includes providing Air Traffic Management to more than 45,000 flights.
The competition for this deal was stiff; in fact, our very own Studio Team (the folks that bring you Up To Speed each week) were integral in elevating the production value of all of the pitches presented to the FAA.

At last week’s leading enterprise communications and CX trade show, Enterprise Connect, Verizon Business announced multiple new BlueJeans platform capabilities aimed to better serve even the most specialized business needs.
Forbes CIO Next Awards
Jane Connell, Global Technology Solutions Chief Information Officer of Corporate Systems, was recently recognized in Forbes’ 2023 CIO Next list, which recognized 50 top tech leaders who are leveraging technology to transform their companies and the role of the CIO.
Jane and her fellow honorees were selected from hundreds of nominations and applications, which included peer input and industry experts’ feedback.
MERIT News
Our Major Emergency Response Incident Team (MERIT) consists of over 40 engineers who deploy when necessary to protect Verizon’s network assets and facilities during natural disasters or hazardous materials incidents.
Last week, MERIT conducted a training in Richardson, Texas simulating a category 3 hurricane that made landfall, causing major flooding and knocking out local power, including a Verizon network facility.
These twice-yearly exercises ensure that Verizon is ready to tackle any real-life scenario to protect network assets and keep our customers connected when it matters most.
