Today, on Up To Speed live, host Jen Marin tackles an extra-large dose of Verizon news, including:

⛈️Update on severe weather.

Our thoughts continue to be with V Teamers and customers who are dealing with severe weather and dangerous situations throughout the country. As the East Coast continues to experience severe storms related to Tropical Storm Debby, those on the West Coast are dealing with high temperatures and ongoing wildfires – with nearly 5,000 wildfires burning in California alone.

⛑️Get help: If you have been displaced from your home due to a natural disaster or as a result of domestic violence, you may be eligible for a grant from the VtoV Employee Relief Fund.

📱They’re here for us: Our EAP program is there to help employees during any rough patch.

⚠️Stay in the know: It’s important to stay in the know when it comes to weather-related emergencies, wildfires and other emergency events. With the Verizon Emergency Notification System (VENS), we make it possible for you to do just that with text or email alerts to your work or personal devices. Employees can sign up for VENS access here.

Thank you everyone who is working tirelessly to ensure that, despite the emergency conditions, our network is holding strong.

🫶 Celebrating those who care.

With August here and back-to-school right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to celebrate our V Team parents and caregivers. Our month-long celebration is spearheaded by the PACT (Parents and Caregivers Together) ERG and this year’s theme is “Acts of Kindness.”

📅 Mark your calendars: PACT’s marquee event is on Tuesday, August 20 from 3 to 4 PM ET. The event will focus on celebrating single working mothers and will feature Verizon leaders sharing tips for balancing work and motherhood. Add this event to your calendar.

▶️ Watch this: A day in the life of a caregiver.

For this one, you just have to watch the video. And you’ll want to, because parent, V Teamer and Global Community Lead for PACT in EMEA, Aaron West is giving us a real life look at what it means to be a working parent.

🏆Working Parent of the Year

Speaking of parents and caregivers, did you know Verizon is a member of Seramount’s 100 Best Companies list? It’s why we help them select their Working Parents of the Year.

Out of the numerous outstanding nominations, V Teamers voted for 2024 Working Parents of the Year winners Latoya Flemming and Amber Flowers!

🏆 Yet another award …

We’re excited to share that Verizon recently scored 100% on this year’s DisabilityIN Disability Equality Index. This marks our ninth year of being recognized for our commitment to creating an empowering and accessible workplace for all — and we couldn’t be more proud of this recognition.

🏅 Award-a-palooza: the accolades continue to roll in.

We just love good news, so here’s some more: The U.S. Black Chambers named Verizon the 2024 Corporate Partner of the Year. For years, our Strategic Alliances team has worked on initiatives to empower the Black community, including our collaboration with the U.S. Black Chambers to promote our Small Business Digital Ready program. This free program has helped over 350,000 businesses so far, with half of them being Black-owned.

Congratulations to the Strategic Alliances team and everyone who contributed to this win.

🛍️Small Business Days are back.

Small Business Daysare here again! During this special promotion which lasts until August 11, Verizon will offer unique deals on the latest technology solutions to help small and midsize businesses thrive. This coincides with National Black Business Month, making it a great time to spotlight the black business owners (and Verizon Business Customers) who are bringing their dreams to life:

  • Natasha Williams founded Cincinnati’s first-ever Black Wine Fest, which showcases Black-owned wine brands and producers. For her, access to resources and technology is paramount as a small business owner, and the resources that Verizon provided her are crucial to running a successful event.
  • Candist White is CEO and Executive Director of Moore 4 You Community Development Center. Candist’s community development center on Long Island runs multiple programs to support youth and adults through comprehensive after-school and community center programs, like the center’s annual backpack drive which will be taking place on August 24.

🔒 Verizon Business releases the 2024 Mobile Security Index.

Verizon Business just released their seventh annual Mobile Security Index report. The study highlights the escalating risks in mobile and IoT security, and is full of statistics and best practices that organizations that manage employee devices can put to use, especially when it comes to IoT devices and sensors.

Check out the 2024 Mobile Security Index.

💦 Verizon and Hyfi: A partnership working to keep New Orleans safe.

Verizon and Hyfi are partnering to install game-changing, 5G-powered, stormwater sensor devices in the greater New Orleans area. The sensors provide vital information that will allow the city and community to better predict and respond to flood events. We hope that the insights we gain will help us to roll out the technology in additional areas prone to flooding.

🧑‍💻 NAF interns in Texas host Coding Camp

A couple of weeks ago, you met our latest summer interns, but we also have a high school internship program through our partnership with the National Academic Foundation (NAF). Last week, the NAF interns in Richardson, Texas hosted a coding camp for the children of local V Teamers in grades 4 -8.
