Learning how to invest in yourself -- through learning.

Over the past few weeks, over 1,500 employees in 17 locations across five different countries have taken part in the Verizon Business Group’s Learning Palooza, a series of live events that focus on helping individuals move their careers forward. The key message: Seeing learning as a process rather than “training as an event.” As Verizon employees, we all have options when it comes to developing new skills and preparing for and obtaining technical and professional certifications/degrees. A tuition assistance program and mobile app are also available.

Watch the Black History Month webcast.

If you missed yesterday’s webcast celebrating Black History Month, the NAACP’s Hilary Shelton inspired us to make inclusion a priority in politics. We also heard from our own Diego Scotti and Tony Lewis on the future of our BRAVE and BOLD employee resource groups. The replay is available on VZWeb.

A new Purpose Champion is recognized.

Last year, the very first Purpose Coin was passed from Hans Vestberg to Srinivas Balla, his chief of staff. Yesterday, a room full of smiling colleagues watched as Balla passed his coin to Chris Toohey, lead engineer on the Communications Team. Chris was praised for always making sure that when leaders are connecting with their teams through webcasts, events and videos, ensuring that the technical connections remain seamless.

Congratulations, Chris. We’re all very proud of you.
